I just ordered #75194 shocks as you guys adviced. I just came up on 50% easter sales in local HPI distributor, so I got like 4 pcs for price of two . Waiting to test them on road. Thanks for help.

Well, its time to post some pics of my rs4 evo with its new shoes...
Don't mind the cracked body...lol....the previous owner hit a speed bump...in time i will be getting a new body....
Now i just gotta get more info on gearing...i am a speed freak....so i plan on putting a .21 in here...my goal is near 80mph....currently i THINK i am at 55-60mph. I have a tower hobbies st-15 truck that i put a os .18 in which clocked at 53 mph. I have a t3.0 in the cuda that i just got done porting. It seems much fast then the truck....now my 2-speed on my truck is messing up and getting stuck...so i really can't race them....but tommorow i plan on clocking the cuda...
What is everyone opinion on the os .18, should i put it in the cuda...i also plan on porting the sleeve in the os motor... you think the os .18 will have more top speed then a hpi t 3.0?
Tom

RE: OFFICIAL RS4 RTR 3 thread!!!!!!!Also type SS and others
I ran almost 57mph with my EVO+ with the T3.0 and stock pipe.. self ported on 30%. Only other mods were 19/23 pinions, and the carbon shock towers and deck. After the rod broke in my T3.0, i put a OS 18 CVR in it..with only mods to it being i put the HPI crank in it. Speeds were pretty much the same, but the OS was definetely turning a little less rpm. Now if you're talking the OSTZ, thats supose to be an animal, though i have no experience with it.
In order to get up near 80...gonna have to either probably switch to single speed with a big pinion setup, or do like im doing and going with around 70mm tall tires. If you switch to the R40 clutch/clutchbell, you can run a 25t pinion.. so with a 25/37 you'd have a 3.80 final.
Im also going bigblock with my RS4, using a Hyper 21. Im going with standard 23/37 gearing (4.13 final) with custom 70-72mm foams, which should put me in the speed range im looking for (75-76).

I have the OS .18CVR in my camaro, and the thing is a beast! But I don't think it turns higher rpms than the HPI 3.0.

Hmm, that's weird....my trans am is on my RS4 3. In fact, the trans am body was one of the stock shells that came in the RS4 3 type SS kit a few years ago....

You must get the O.S 18tz. That's the way to go.
If there are people out there running over 100mph with an O.S 18tz modded or with a good .21 size engine. I'm pretty sure that the stock 18tz will push you to 80-85 mph. Correct me if I'm wrong.
There is much more than just gearing and engines that will make you faster. There is friction like your bearings, weight... reducing weight will make you faster, and keeping your gears meshing right at those top speeds. It's easy to mesh your gears at a stand still but getting them to mesh right at high speeds is a challenge and there is a way to fix that out there for that too. Want to know how?

I would have never guessed this thread would last this long!!!!
There are some nice cars on here in the last 5-6 pages, very nice to see people still driving these great little cars.I just got back into messing with mine after a few years and put an OS .18 CV in it and I plan to run 30% nitro.

Nice car galaxy....i am in the same boat as you...i kinda just got back into the r/c scene after a few years, they are fun little toys, plus the parts cost less then my real race car...lol...i left my t3.0 in my rs4 and just did some slight porting on the sleeve...it helped the low end...i clocked it this weekend and got 58mph on 20% nitro, 2 speed tranny and tuned pipe. not bad for mostly stock. I have a 0s .18 to put in there which is on my tower hobbies st-15 truck, but after reading some post, it sounds like the speed is basicly the same...so until i blow up the hpi motor i am not going to change it...other then to a big block..
And car-boy.....would you like to enlighten us on how to keep the correct gear mesh at higher speeds?

From what I've heard from some guys that run 100mph, they stack two stock HPI rs4 chassis... one.on top of the other. Your engine will twist your chassis at a high rpm.

RE: OFFICIAL RS4 RTR 3 thread!!!!!!!Also type SS and others
did some testing the other day with my rs4 evo...i self ported the sleeve on the t3.0, which indeed gave me a little more umf off the line...i clocked it at an avg of 57.5 mph. The current mods on my rs4 are: 2 speed tranny with the stock 47-43 spurs withe the 18-22 pinions. I only ran 20% nitro, and also put a little better tuned pipe on there with a self ported header. Other then all that its all stock.
After plugging the numbers into the program RC gears is was right on the money on what the top speed should of been. It said the top speed of 57.499mph.....damn thats acuarate!
So just putting the the 41-45 spurs on with the 19-23 pinions the top speed should put me around:63 mph
Now, i might have a shot on getting the os .18 tz motor which spins ruffly around 34,000 rpm compared to my 31,000 t3.0...which would raise the mph up to: 69 mph.....then if i converted to the 1/8 scale serpents with the 76mm diameter wheel, that would then raise it to: 80.8 mph.
I have only one confussion..looknig at wolf serpent adapters, The rears are at 76mm with the fronts being 70mm...does this mess with the gearing at all?
Tom

Id be careful with that seller on eBay. Comes from another country and has only sold 15 items, but does have 100% feedback. But what seems funny his shipping is only $7. Too low from wherever he is shipping from.
Wolfpack has its own website.

Question to those rocking a HPIRS4 2, Where do you buy the long belt?
Seems that most parts are now dicontinued, so I call HPI with a couple of questions and I got was a NONONO LOL!
Would be nice if I could upgrade the RS42 to an EVO, or at the very least, buy an evo without engine, servos, etc...

I would search on ebay, i looked earlier today and found some bare bone evo's on there. i would even search for a belt on there...you do have a part number right? a online hobbie shop should have one laying around.

Here is a chassis I made for the car and the set of HG wheels I need to polish, and the talk of the Trans Am body made me want to take the other ones.

@ bigeye: yes, the engine's heatsink will stick out. My friend had one with his T15, and it stuck out. He actually broke the head after a flip.
@ serpent: awesome cars and pics man. Love that you've made a garage with wheel racks! Too awesome!
