HPI Racer2 takes on the speed challenge
As some of you might have heard, I took a trip to the USR speed challenge this weekend in Fontana and I took a few of my toys with me. As always, I took a couple of my HPI Racer2s along on the trip. One with a 21 and one with an 18. Well, we managed to take both trophies home for Big Block and Small Block along with setting new records for each class. The 21 powered one pulled 101.46 and the 18 powered one pulled 89.96. As well the large scale class with my FG Baja which pulled a nice 97.96. This done with a double speed trap at a sanctioned event. No radar guns or GPS. Info can be found on the rc-isc.com site.

I can tell you but I'd have to kill you
Just kidding. Motor, gearing and a lot of patience. Keep it clean, tuned right and run the right oil.

Great, great stuff Got__to__100. The .21 RS4 clearly shows the bigger engine will always prevail or shall I say SHOULD when properly tuned/geared to do so. What .21 engine was in there and what tires did you use? The .18 ran great too I see. I am not a fan of the bigger cars but that thing ran fast too.
Got any photos of the cars?
BTW, how did Ziggy do?

Nice going Got to 100. Your 102mph beats my 100mph for a big block so I'll list you as the record holder. I still retain the 103mph for the open and 94mph for the small block.
I've built a new small block, big block and am working on the open IC cars. I'll let you know what speed they get
Cheers

Brent , how has your drag racing season been so far?? Are you still smoking people with your twin plug drag motor?? I have just finished making a 2 speed tranny for my MCD . Now I need to put in my alloy parts break in my motor and try it out.

JP has some badd ass engines. In fact I just got two new JP's modified by RBmods. One is a R03 and the other is the R07. Both share the same HUGE ports on the sleeves, piston and rod but the R03 has a 14mm crank and the R07 uses a 14.5mm crank. These will be for drag racing and I must say that they ARE NASTY thus far.

Nice, Mines were done by RB as well some time ago. I've had that motor for 3 years now although I dont run it often.

I expect you to be setting some records good luck.

Got_to_100, you got any photos of the cars that you care to share? What JP engines do you have as far as model? You can get the any of the engines already modifed by JP or get the same part numbers but with an "S" on the engine to signal that it is a stock version unmodifed. Do you have a R03 with the 14mm crank or a 14.5mm crank version? IMO, you would benefit to make a faster top end pass like what you have done using a 14.5mm crank version since it will wind out further with that extra .5mm on the crank and with those HUGE azz ports on the sleeve. I am happy for you man and especially to know that my bonafide, never leave him engine modifier did your engine. That is great news and to know that it was modifed a while back. Rick has some new mods for these engines now though. You might wanna try one of my dual plug buttons out to make even more power.
Don't know about setting records just yet nitrohead. I am building my own Pro-mod chassis that will mimic a NTC3 drivetrain but using the LD3 steel gear system instead. No company makes a 2-speed "SHAFT" driven car for drag racing only so I am on my own. The new Walbern chassis has been great thus far and I expected nothing less otu of it the last few track sessions. I have not bettered my old car's ET but I will. A 1.82 thus far and the car is spinning like crazy. The belt system on the walbern chassis is fine but you HAVE to keep spare belts on you because they do strip and/or break therefore I am going to go for the steel gearset using a one-way diff. Here's the latest car using a Kangaroo.
A shot of it with the dual Merlin turbo plugs in it. I no longer have that air filter system on it though. It was a restriction believe it or not.

RE: HPI Racer2 takes on the speed challenge
Brent, Im not sure which model it was since I've had it for 3 years now and the head was changed the same day it was purchased. I actually purchased the motor already done by RB but I do have an local engine modifier thats been doing my motors since.
Nitrohead, You'd be surprised to know that the 18TZ came off the shelf 4 days before the event and is not modified. Its all in the car. I'll post pics later.
