Default Making a Crawler

Ok, So I have decided, I am going to build a Crawler, I totally stripped my rusty for parts and here's what I got from it:

1. The Diff and tranny, locked them already
2. Drivechain stuff
3. shocks and springs
4. shock towers (tossing)
5. hub carriers
6. **** body

Ok and here's what I plan to get

1. Custom Chassis, making my own
2. maxx shocks or 1/8 scale shocks
3. Body

Electronics
1. Novak T4 Hyperfet ESC
2. Novak XR2 Radio Gear
3. Power Maxx 2400 mAh NiCD batt packs
4. Deans plugs
5. Team Orion Pilot 27Tx1 Motor

Gearing
Spur: 87T
Pinion: 19T

Tires: Pede Tires (reversed for more traction)

LMK what you think and I will keep you posted on how it's coming. LMK what you think I should change

Thanks

ok thnx for the info, anything else I need to know, I am planning on using a gecko design for my custom chassis and some maxx shocks.... I will upgrade them later to piggybacks or aluminum. They need to be cheap, for now, and 4", what do you recommend?

Sounds like you've got a plan together.

Is that going to be 2 motors, front & rear? If so, the integy's are probably your most economical solution.

Remember that a stock motor has locked timing so you can't use those if you're going to run one in reverse. (I just learned this recently...)

Yes, higher turn motors are fine for a crawler. 10mph is more than fast enough. What matters most (engine-wise) is torque. I'm running 19 turn motors in mine, they have adjustable timing, and 9 tooth pinions.

FastFred: No it is one going to be one motor w/ a diff and 2 maxx center diffs at the front and rear for drivechain. all 3 will be locked.... I am running the team Orion Pilot 27T motor w/ adjustable timing and a 19T pinion and 87T spur... I amplanning to switch to a lower tooth piniom, like between an 11 and 8T

no, I am making my own custom chassis, I took the tranny from a rusty I had lying around and locked up the diff... I am going to mount to tranny to the center area of the chassis (the design is similar to the gecko 1 design) and then run my CV's down to front and rear where they will each be met by a T/E-maxx center diff (that will be locked) and then run 2 more CV's from those to the wheels. I'll post some pics when it's more in the process because It's just parts right now. I need to get some sheeting and stuff too, I have my list, just don't have time right now

when me and my brother made his chassis, we used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade for the majority of it, and a dremel for detail work.

Yeah, at school to cut my chassis out i cut it out roughly on a band saw because the jig saw made it too 'jumpy', if you know what i mean. Then i just used some files and filed it down. I stuck a paper chassis template to the aluminium first though.

how thick is the aluminum?depending on how thick i might also be better to use a blow torch to cut it out (roughly) and sand it done instead of burning your dremel up trying to cut through stuff too thick(i had to be very careful cutting that thick lexan jnot to burn up the dremel)

ok, I going to get pats today...I said yesterday but I didn't, I may just build the chassis out of 3/8" lexan because it's stronger then just an aluminum chassis.... lexan and maybe some 1 or 2 mm sheeting to sandwich in behind it....

ok, first stage of many is complete, tonight I mounted the tranny, and cut out the underchassis, the underchassis is made of plexiglass and is a lot more stronger then the 23 GA steel sheeting I got.... I dunno if you can see from the pics but there is a peice on the bottom... sorry for the grainy pics, I will keep you posted.... I also made the front and rear cants.... no pics as of now though...
