Default X-factor Crawling Setup

Setting up a new X-factor 2 for rock-crawling, would appreciate comments on the following:

1. Suspension/chassis setup
2. Tires
3. Gearing

Thanks.

Loose the nitro and plop in your favorite electric tranny. Nitros dont crawl well.

Pakfan, the 4-stroke idea is a good one - do you run the OS engine in a x-factor? Since it's an aircraft engine, would appreciate any installation & operating comments.

Anyone with suggestions on car-specific 4-strokes, please post.

Thanks.

i dont own a x factor or a rock crawler at that
but its common sense. i would guess that its a pretty much custom job. if u could get it to work it would be alsome wit the low gearing.

ps i was planning on doing this as a winter project but now im saving up for a super pocket bike.!!!
thats how i know this stuff.[8D][&o]

So you can just buy the dual cantilevers and install them. you dont have to do it custom or anything? Also, a four stroke would be soo hard to put in a x factor, 4s tork is just simpy amazing, but if anyone know how to install a 4s into a zf. that would be excellent!! Thanks!!

Thanks for the info everyone, I'm going to check with XTM about the gearing setup for a four-stroke and, if it looks like it can work, will put in the OS engine. Meantime, ordered a nova cooling head to replace the small stock one.

it should not be that hard to put a 4 stroke in to a x factor. i put an airplane motor in to an old tmaxx just made an adaptor plate for the motor mount and had to remove the fuel tank for room and got new gears, relocated the fuel tank to front for added weight cause it could pull the front tires off the ground at 3/4 throtle. i dunno what you would have to do to an xfator but just start by takeing stuff out till you can fit the motor in it, finding a bel cluch was hard i got a real stiff one so you had it reaved up befor it would engage, also get the smallest tooth clucth gear to the biggest trans gear, atleast on the tmaxx moved it out farther and gave it a lower ratio.

sorry no pics my computer has crashed since it was performed and i since converted it to the new 2.5 motor

It looks like it would have to be an airplane engine, the OS "C" is real tough to find, and demand seems to be keeping prices high at auction as well.

Jeep, what engine was this and what clutch did you end up using? The X-Factor has lots of space around the engine, so mounting should not be a problem (I'll take some pics & post). I'm more concerned with the clutch, which has to be heavy duty for the rock-crawling scene.

Thanks.

im not really in the airplane scene much(youd think id be more in to it being an aerospace engineer) but i got a trainer like a year or two ago and wrecked it short after. startrd the rebuild but went reall slow due to other stuff like a job and school so i had the motor sitting a rouund. so i dont know what type it was just a regular trainer motor. im out at school so not like i can run down and look but winter break is coming i check it out when i get home, for the cluch one of the hobby shops by me has a lot of bigger car stuff like 1/8 and 1/5 stuff i just went in and was like i need a cluch with a really late grip time and small teeth to fit this. and he show me a few and i took the one with the lowest teeth
a friend here at school has a airplane size 4 stroke, the type with like 5 hp and huge torque and really slow rpms, and its supercharged! laying a round so i might try to put it back it to my tmaxx ill keep ya posted

Thanks.

Here are the chassis pics of the X-factor.

Would appreciate any additional comments from members who have experience in using 4-stroke engines in cars (such as the OS Surpass series).
