new to crawling
hi there well the sixty four million dollar questiong "what crawler to get"
i want 2 do as much custom building as possible but i dont want to build the whole thing. i like the gecko type of chassis
i would like a long wheeelbase crawler about 16-17" and about maby 5-6" wide not including wheels
to use traxxas links if possible
very low chassis
jumbomaxx swampdawgs if possible as i think i will be running clod axles
possibly four wheel steering
something like this would be ideal

RE: new to crawling
if you get the clod kit, or even just the axels then the hard part is done for you. then if you want to get an off-the-shelf gecko then you can, or if you want to fabricate your own gecko inspired 4link chassis it will be as easy or hard as your skills allow. the technology in crawlers isnt very complex or hard to fab yourself and as the motors, gearboxes and steering are all built into the axel it is simply a case of building a chassis to hold the battery pack and radio gear and then tweaking it to give as much suspension travel as you feel you need.
A crawler is always on my want list, but as it will be an expensive project little 1/18ths keep jumping ahead of it in the queue. That said, almost every plan I have made or seen for a crawler starts with a pair of clod axels.

RE: new to crawling
Right now the best clawler chassis is [link=http://www.thecrawlerstore.com/images/Xtreme_Gallery/DSCN5365.JPG]the Xtreme or the "stick".[/link] It's too good until some clawlers want it to be banned from the competition. I have here, [link=http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4065]How to build a Clodbuster Rock Crawler[/link], many types and pics of chassis.
I hope this will help you out!
