Default gonna do a crawler....

Hi everyone, my mind is made up and I am gonna do a crawler. So you guys are gonna see me around more . I have been sitting on the fence for awhile..... I can't resist anymore. I am gonna do it a little at a time, first up are the clod axles and gears. Which brings me to my quetion... are the dual motor gear boxes any good? I am thinking of the scorpion v2 chassis. Hopefully I can get a runner by spring.

Here are the axles I am planning on, untill someone gives me some major issues with using them.

What would be the best approach to this? each axle has the motors in series and the axles in parallel to the esc? or two esc's seperate of each other with a y from receiver to each?

Don't get me wrong, im also a noob to the rock crawling scene. But wouldn't you want weight? As long as its low, i only see it helping.

Rock crawlers are slow, but i do see how it could "rob" from low the end, But it is electric, and you would have plenty left. Also, when you say balance, what do you mean? I would assume you would want more weight in the front, then in the rear. For obvious reasons. What do you balance too? Or, from what point of the truck do you balance it from. Sorry, i have just recently gotten into rock crawling.

Well that's why I am kinda hoping I can go 4 motors, 1 esc, 2 batts. Speed is not what I am shooting for it is pure torque that I want. I was kinda leaning towards 4 reedy quad mags..... but i might have to go to a higher turn count depending on the esc.

Get 4 Integy 55 turn lathe motors! You would have more than enough torque!

Those are great for bling but not for crawling. They well get the crap beat out of them and hung on rocks. Stock clod axles, a pair of 55t's. Work on a low CG. Good tires make a BIG difference, lst's or moab's.

Yeah, 4 motors is probably overkill. The stock axles are plenty cheap and tough, plus the gears are swappable so you can have some strength inside. It's true the aluminum is tough and lovely, but it will soon be banged up with the rest.

These are JPS axles with steering and axle tubes before I mounted them, and I even had the pretty anodized heat sinks. In the end, I sold these off and went back to the plastic.
