So is a 2.2 close to 1/10 scale or what am i missing? I have seen some 1.9 parts and they are smaller than what I expected, havent ran across any 2.2 parts in person.

1.9 and 2.2 generally refer to the wheel sizes. There's kind of a thin line between the "scale" of a 1.9 and 2.2 setup. Most people just use what fits.

Like was said, 1.9 and 2.2 refer to the wheel sizes. The SCX-10 1.9 scaler, the AX-10 2.2 competition crawlers and the Losi 2.2 competition crawler are all considered 1/10 scale.
However, the Losi MINI Rock Crawler also uses 1.9 wheels/tires but it is 1/18 or 1/12 scale. So the parts for those are considerably smaller and the tires in relation to the truck itself are considerably bigger and makes it look just like a mini competition crawler. When you put 1.9 wheels/tires on a 1/10 rig, they look a little more proportional and more suited for a "scale" rig.
