the creeper was running

Oh man i was so stoked today. i go to run the creeper for a bit today but sadly it's back on the bench. i was trying to adjust a few things and broke something.
so while i wait for a part i was working on the creeper diff lock set up and oh boy is it a mess. the cable tube is weak, the cable it's self is real weak as well, the spring by the switch leaver is weak to. the concept is cool but the equipment isn't built strong enuff. well i got to thinking maybe i should look at this like i do my RC's. very cool stock but better with upgrades.so before i go and try moving the mini servo's to the axle and cutting things i'm going to go for getting the stock set up worked out. if venom got it maybe i can to (i hope).

Mike Flea 05-09-2015 05:38 PM

Check out RCCrawler.com, they've got a whole section on the Venom Creeper, maybe someone there can answer your questions and give you some pointers on it.

RustedRC 05-09-2015 07:05 PM

yeah iv'e been reading the tips and tricks thread on there for like a month now and they either move the servo to the axle or don't use it and lock the diff. moving it to the axle will be last resort.
also looking for a alum horn for the dig servo. it's a small servo but not as small as the mini ones for the diff. if any one has an idea of where to get one that would be great.

just a few pic's of some creeper work.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2095109
another short cable.i don't think they measure the cable or the tube before the send them out.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2095110
the little spring by the switch lever needs to be a bit bigger.
wonder if they make a mg mini servo to replace the stock one with.

need a bearing for one of the rear lock outs.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2096269
kinda hard to see but that is a lot of room for that axle to be moving.
so a bearing for that and shims for both rear lock outs. the axles slide in and out a bit to much.

RustedRC 05-21-2015 11:42 AM

The rear lock outs are shimmed and new bearings are in. nice to get it running again.
go the DIG working some today too. still need to mess with the settings a little more. i can get all 4 wheels to move and just the rear to lock up but can't get the rear to free spin.
now that the dig is working i might put the diff lock kit away for a different time.
now i need to find some lockers for the axles. i tried to contact a company called FLM but got no response yet. i just don't want to use the jb weld method but might go with the washer mod th keep the axle locked if i can't find a true lock set up for these axles.

TheBennyB 05-23-2015 05:22 PM

Found these on amazon of all places.

RustedRC 05-23-2015 08:23 PM

you the man TheBennyB.

TheBennyB 05-24-2015 09:28 AM

No sweat. If that doesn't work out let me know. May have a set laying around in my parts box along with the heavy duty diff covers, but not sure until I dig around.

RustedRC 05-24-2015 03:20 PM

OK sounds great. i have to wait like two weeks so if there gone by then i will hit you up.thanks again.

RustedRC 06-05-2015 10:22 PM

Any creeper guys that run a dig have any advise on using all three features of the dig. can't seem to get the rear to free spin. lock and unlock are fine.

RustedRC 06-22-2015 12:07 PM

still working on the dig setup but i think i found some help for the creeper. if all goes well i'll post up on the what who and how's of getting the creeper back to good.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2109351
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2109354
the rear should be here soon.
im also doing some rock lights. i need to finish the back ones but it's coming along.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2109355
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2109356
still going to get a few more parts. getting close to completion.

Mike Flea 07-16-2015 04:14 PM

Those Punisher shafts are nice. The rear axle on the Jeep uses one, much longer than yours, but it takes abuse, and keeps running. I've heard some guys complain that the pins fall out, but, knock on wood, I haven't had any problems. It's big and beefy, and all scratched to hell, it must be 3/8 diameter, and gets hung up on the rocks, but no damage other than a few scratches.

RustedRC 07-16-2015 07:30 PM

They are nice looking shafts.i hope the pins don't give any problems. a lot better then the plastic ones. the second shaft came in today so i go it connected to the tranny only. i have to wait to get the rear axle back before i can test them out but i think they should work out good.

Mike Flea 07-17-2015 04:08 PM

I saw this on RCC, some guys have said if you put a piece of heat shrink around where the pins are, it helps to keep them in. I haven't done it, but I'm not running a big powerful motor either.

RustedRC 07-17-2015 08:45 PM

the heat shrink stops the cvd pins in the axle from falling out binding the wheels. i have the red metal pin retianer for them. the factory plastic drive shafts have pin retainers so the shafts don't come loose. the pins in these punisher shafts look good so i don't think they will fall out.
rcc is where i end up when i'm doing research on crawler stuff. lot of good tried and tested info on there. i read the whole creeper section at least twice when i first got my creeper it helped more than i could explain. it's getting down to a hand full of parts then the creeper will be done. i can't wait.

UPDATE for the creeper.
after a bit of a wait. i got to run the creeper again. for the past week i have been testing a locker that is custom made for the creeper axles. all is going good and the part seems strong enough for the beating i have been and will be putting it through.
here's a peek of the prototype.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2127521
the final parts may look slightly different but will be just what i needed to bullet proof the creeper axles.

Mike Flea 10-25-2015 04:33 PM

Looks god and strong, who makes it?

RustedRC 10-25-2015 09:50 PM

Soon as the parts get here i'll let you know.

Blkft1 10-31-2015 03:24 PM

I've a Creeper too, RcBro/FLM lockers in the axles, it's on my blog on the "other forum". Haven't run it in a looooong time since putting a TCS tuber frame (for the AX10) on it, still new. Did really well for just running a Novak 55T in it and stock tires, plenty of flex. Guess I need to dig it out again soon.

RustedRC 10-31-2015 08:32 PM

I tried to contact FLM for the part. they said they don't make it any more and i asked for any info like spec's or what ever they could give to help out. i didn't get a response so i had some one make me some. i hope they get here soon i wanna go crawling. LOL. iv'e been working on the creeper for over a year getting this and that. H B rovers on stock rims(for now), 60 t integy, punisher shafts, dig unit, rear lock outs, rock lights .still looking to get a few more parts.
post a pic of your creeper Blkft1.

Here ya go, pretty much stock except the FLM solid spool lockers and TCS tuber frame. I had to cut down the stock drive shafts to work with the frame, plan on upgrading later, it's been kind'a packed away for awhile.

RustedRC 11-01-2015 12:45 PM

That frame looks cool. i see there is a bit more flex than my stock frame from the top shock mount position. i wonder if there is enuff room under there for the dig unit.

Blkft1 11-01-2015 11:09 PM

I don't know, frames pretty tight. Need to run a small lipo on the side of the trans. Esc and such'll be mounted on the forward upper links on a lexan plate. I read somewhere that AX10 spools and axles shafts can be modified to fit in the Venoms housing if something breaks internally. I dunno, at that point might as well just swap out em out completely. I hadn't run this one much in its stock configuration and none at all with the tuber frame, I have yet to move into lipos/brushless. It did crawl (creep) better than my CR01 though.
