looking for a reliable sail boat first time
Hi everyone
I want to buy my father a sail boat. We live on a golf course in botswana and have a few dams so it is the perfect toy.
I saw the the nirvana11 looked like a good first boat. but i have looked on tower hobbies and they are only expecting stock in november.
I wanted to get it sooner. What else can you recomend like that. It will be his first RC sail boat but he does do proper sailing so he understands the idea.
Need to get one form tower hobbies and ship it via priority mail international not UPS as it is troo expensive. I looked at the fly emirates boat my thunder tiger but it wont allow you to ship it via the mail service, it must be too big or something.
Would prefer it to have the radio included but i dont mind buying a seperate radio. if need be. I just don want to recieve a rubish looking kids toy if you know what i mean.
Which boat on tower hobies would be a good option. I tried to see shipping costs on the paradise but also it wont allow me to ship via mail service.
Regards
Dane

The Paradis does not seem very popular with those that have bought it[&o]
If you have any modelling shops in say, Cape Town or Jo'burg, you shoulod save a bit on postage. In any case if the ETNZ can't be posted and the Nirvana is out of stock, that doesn't leave much choice from Tower. The best of those remaining would probably be the Dumas Star.

waht about the proboat one.
I can get it in joburg for eq $US374 or 2680 rand.
i could land the victoria in botswana for $278.
do you think the extra 100 would be worth it.

RE: looking for a reliable sail boat first time
i was just a bit worried about the length of the keel on the Proboat sanibel.
we will be sailing on a private dam or pond. There is not peer or jetting. Was worried about how deeper water you need to launch it in?
Does anyone know what is the shalowest you can sail the sanibel.

We're sailing Monsoon 900s here in Hangzhou & are pretty happy with the boat. Not sure if you can find them locally or what the cost would be to ship from China. At what we're paying for an RTS boat, it's great value & considerably less than the brand name kits available at our LHS.

Dane,
Don't give up yet on the Nirvana II. I bought mine from Steve Lang at SailRC.com. He has upgraded the stock Nirvana tremondously...all electronics included in nearly waterproof box (and a small sponge handles that), including radio receiver, servos, etc. You also get 12 AA NiMH 2100mah batteries. All HiTec equipment, very dependable. Be sure to ask for the blue boat, "Choice" version. I also bought the electronic upgrade, which includes Steve's modifications and the HiTec radios, etc. Another $50 or so.
All that need be done to put it in the water is connect the mast, rudder, and insert the keel/bulb. Takes less than 1/2 hour and you're ready to wet her! She sails like a dream in steady winds up to 8-9mph.
You might email Steve Lang at [email protected] or if you wish to call him. I have no idea what the shipping would be to Botswana but I'm sure you and he could work it out.
I have owned EC12 and a 36/600 and the Nirvana compares favorably to them in responsiveness and sailing ability.
Good luck!
Bill

I have both the Sanibel and Nirvana 2.
I cannot recoomend the Sanibel, the control line on mine snapped on the 4th time out. NOT easy to repair and Horizon refused to help me with the issue.

our club runs the RC Laser sailboat with great success. I have not seen any one break and they always work. A,B, or C rigged for low, medium, or high wind. They cost about $500 each
