Default Northwind 28

I was wondering if anyone has worked with the Northwind 28.

I see many 36's and many mods, but I'm wondering if some of the "beefing up" is warranted on the 28 as well.
Specifically the servo box and the Main Boom. I've added marine epoxy to strengthen the joints between the keel & ballast, and the keel and hull.
So far so good.....

THanks,
Z

The 28 is pretty much the same boat as the 36,I think at a minimum you want to fix the keel to bulb joint which you've done,And the stock radio box is something that I don't think will stand up over the long run.
I built my NW 36 4or 5 year's ago and modified it qite heavily but I've never had any trouble with it at all,Just a bit of maintenance.
Your boat's looking good.

Zryde,

It is looking really good! I love the paint scheme. Is that Testors chrome paint for the deck fittings? That is what I ended up using and have been relatively happy with the appearance. Did you end up painting the hull white, or is that bare ABS?

I was wondering the same thing on all the mods for the 36. I would think that the 28 would see considerably less force on the radio box than for the larger 36, but that is really just a guess. Did you end up doing any modifications? Perhaps unfortunately I didn't look much on line before I began, so my radio box is in there as per directions. Are you running a standard servo on the 28 or something with a bit more torque?

I'm about to start the rigging, which is what I said last month and the month before that... I'll probably say it again next month too.

Keep posting the pictures... it is looking good.

All right! Another North Wind. I also have the 36. And alas... I to put the radio box in befor I knew better. You can get standard size servos with quite a bit of torque to help with the sail. You’ll need to go with a 5 cell battery as well. Haven’t had mine long enough to see any other weaknesses. I will most likely remove the original radio box and go with a more open setup some day.

Well, I managed to get some sailing in before winter. This really is a great hobby.

I finally got around to taking some more pics.

Next steps are to upgrade the stays from the stock "thread" to some metal braided wire, (with less stretch), and to fabricate some type of cabin and/or windshield, if possible (the Northwind Bubble is boring).

Default Looking for a rudder for Northwind rc

Anyone know where I can get a rudder for my ABS Hobby North Wind sailboat? I actually don't know which one it is but the mast is at least 3ft tall. My brother accidentally kicked it and broke the rudder. I'm sure I could add on epoxy and sand it to fit and work but I want an original. Thanks in advance. Nice looking boats yall have!

Default North Wind sailboat 28 rudder

Hi. Nice looking boats!! If this thread is still active and you are willing to help.....I need someone to measure the rudder for me or post a link that will show/tell me the specs of the rudder & shaft. My boat fell off or was accidentally knocked off a shelf and it broke the rudder. I removed the rest of the rudder with plans to epoxy it. I lost the rudder so now I need to know the specs to make one or purchase one. It seems like the shaft was a 4mm but I'm not 100% sure. I would love to find the exact rudder but doubt I can find it by itself. Any info would greatly be appreciated, Thnx.
