Great! because I'm about ready to get back to this.
Did you enlarge just the first former? How much?
I had a couple of other questions to ask you, but now I forgot...oh, well.

Hey Dave,
Just an FYI I haven't seen anything as of yet. You may want to check and see where it went.

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
I finally finished the new wings for my previously crashed Spad and can now get back to this one.
I made the center section as Dave did above and I'm still pleased with the nice parts fit.[sm=thumbup.gif] (Dave, Am I correct in assuming that the center section gets covered with 3/32" balsa sheet?)
I also prepared the spars for the lower wings and will start on them shortly.
Jim
P.S. I made new end ribs from 1/8" basswood just to make it a little stronger where the plug-in wings butt together.

I just finished framing the first lower wing. It's going very fast again, thanks to the nice parts fit and simple construction design.

That's an interesting way to do it. Is the wing thicker than the original? I wonder how the full scale was done?

I definitely would have reconsidered my 1/3 GTM fokker dr1 purchase after seeing this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzLUNSR0SG8This guy is an incrediable model builder.

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
The full size used the torque rod as the leading edge of the aileron. Welded steel tube construction, the torque rod was also the hinge that the straps trapped against the rear spar. The torque tube was in the centre of the aileron, as it was the simplest way...
Which is why there are no links between the ailerons on the full size either. The 'top hinged' construction of this models aileron looks to be a 'modellers solution' to representing the full size yet using familiar techniques. I am guessing that 4 servos will be used to operate the ailerons? I have some idea of this as I am constructing a 1/4 scale version and the photos of the originals I have available indicate an even thinner wing section than the photos of the model here show...

Yes, there will be four servos.
It's true, the top hinging is probably a compromise between true-scale and modelling techniques, but I'm OK with it. Even if the airfoil was thinner, the torque tube would have to be probably 3/4" in diameter. I'll leave that method to the purists out there.[8D]

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
The upper ailerons can be activated by visible pushrods emerging through the gundeck from below, just like the full scale. It still would be good to use two servos, one for the right wing and one for the left. The pix show one way to do this, although DJ's design will be different because the lower wing is added to the fuse as a one piece unit rather than right and left sides.

RE: Siemens-Schuckert D.III 1/3 Scale
Alan, that is what I did on my 1/4 scale. I got tired of hooking and unhooking the linkage. I also was getting some spring from the torque tube. The top hinge is not accurate but the foil is. The ailerons will use a spoiler type linkage whichwill not be visible.

Actually it's a little more than that. When the cap strips are added, it's slightly over 1" thick. This rib is from the lower wing, the top wing would be a little thicker.
Wire rigging is a must with this model![8D]
