as a spectator I thoroughly enjoyed my time at top gun last sat.I appreciated the chairs available to watch the event .moreover I appreciated the acess to see some of hobbies best rc planes and pilots in the country.the food was good.and parking was very close and easy.If I have one recommendation it would be to give more distance from the exhibitors and the viewing area.some of the bigger planes had very narrow passage..beyond that the only annoying thing were those darn lovebugs.lol.as for the wind I always joke that if you live here you learn to fly with wind.remarkably the skill of top gun pilots demonstrated their ablities to adjust with the wind.I like the site and plan to be back next year.hopefully the temps will be more spring like.
great job!!

I went on Wed and didnt see half of those planes. Was my first time there and figured all planes had to be there for the compition on the first day, figures I was wrong again. When do most planes show up for compition, or a better day to go?

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the two Pro-Am classes fly. Saturday and Sunday the Expert, Master, Team, and Unlimited classes fly. Also, on Sunday, the top Pro-Am that made the cut will fly one more flight for final judging.

Saturday is the best day to go. On Saturday, the best judged from the days prior, the Expert, Team scale and Unlimited class all fly.
If I had only one day to attend, I would be there Saturday for sure.

Denny,
No, the best judged from Pro-Am fly on Sunday, not Saturday.

No problem. his girlfriend loved all the planes. I just finished converting an Eaglet to electric power so she can continue to learn to fly. She has amazed me how much she has learned so far.

A special thanks this year goes to Dave Johnson and his staff from Futaba Support and Tower Hobbies, who very kindly reached out to me after round one, giving me a set of DLE 111 mufflers so that I could continue to compete with my Pitts Special S-1S in Expert for the duration of the event. I lost power on my final approach in round one after loosing the right side muffler on my Brison 4.8 twin. The DLE 111 muffler had a perfect bolt pattern match for the Brison! I flew all four rounds finishing twelfth, and couldn't have done it without Dave's support. Thanks so much to Dave and his crew from Futaba and Tower Hobbies!!
Also I would like to congradulate Frank Tiano, his wife Carol, all of the TG judges, flight line crew, hard-working staff and vendors for continuing to make this event the best in the country. Ken from RCU and the Model Airplane News staff did a great job, as always, covering the event with photography, interviews and video. The venue this year was incredible to say the least!!

OK, Isaid that was all the pictures until the final article is done. But Ifound one more picture to share with everybody. After Top Gun Istayed a couple of nights with Steve Thomas (owner of Bob's Hobby Center in Orlando). He was flying one of the planes involved in the mid-air collison that Ihad in the Saturday video clip. While Iwas at his house he had the wing from the LA-7 he was flying when the mid-air happened. He as able to safely land the plane after the mid-air. As you can see, the prop on the P-47 did a number on his flap and wing area. Steve said that the plane will be repaired with no big problems.
Ok, time for me to get back to work on the article. Hope you all enjoyed this last picture

Rick,
Great Job!
I was there in '06 when you lost #1. It almost brought me to tears.
Glad to see you got back on that horse.
See you in October!

I would like to add these photos of the mid-air. The middlephoto was taken by Barry Atkinson, the editor of RC Jet International. Him and I were standing next to each other snapping away when the mid-air occurred. The first and last shot are mine and the second shot is his. His shutter fired at the right time.
