In case you couldn't make it, I took a few pics to share. I was a fill-in flight judge so I didn't get any flying shots.

...a special kudos to Corey ( scale dail ) for achieving high flight score of 99.0 and also qualifying for the Championships in October.
And he did it with a .40 size Mustang proving that all size models can be competetive. Good job Corey.
The Clipped wing T-Craft is by Brad Osborne and built from plans drawn by Bob Nelits.

There were 34 entries in five classes and static judging was done on Saturday morning and finished before 10am. No small task ! There were three flight lines with two judges per station. Models were positioned at the ready ( on-deck-circle ) behind each pilot station so a constant flow was in motion. This kept things moving along and the judges very busy.
The weather was near perfect all weekend, after early morning drizzles on Saturday, and the condition of the runway was excellent. Hemet Model Masters was the hosting club and they repaired any and all runway surface cracks and applied a fresh slurry-coat and all new stripping. A new shade structure covering the entire pit area was also built. A much needed and appeciated improvment.
All-in-all, it was a great contest weekend. Good weather, good flying site, good food, well run and organized, good variety of models, friendly people ( several from Arizona ) and as a personal note ( from a judges p.o.v. ) some outstanding "SCALE" flying. I was very impressed all weekend with the scale-realism and precission of everyone's flying. HOWEVER....everyone needs to work a little harder on the "Placement" element of flying the maneuvers. Most were too far away / out from the maneuver line. Something to work on before October
I would give the "Best dead-stick" landing award to the pilot of the Glassair for expertly gliding from wayyyy out in the downwind leg all the way back to the runway. It was a thing of beauty.
I think everyone had a fun time and maybe learned a little bit from the experience. I know I did.
Ken.

Nice job Ken! I know yours and Jim's comments will help in future competions. In my mind I allways stayed away from the manuever line in fear of crossing the dead line and being DQ. In the future I will drive right down the line so placement won't be a deduction! Thanks for all the nice pictures and great job judging the event. Robert B.
