Default Crimping sleeve orientation?

I am crimping the rigging on my Aviatik DI with the BUSA crimping tool and sleeves. I am wondering if the oval should be crimped "flat", which flattens it further, or if it should be crimped "on edge" so that the resultant crimp is closer to a cylinder.

Thanks in advance,

Martin

When crimping fishing lines, and aircraft rigging, I like to crimp near one end in one direction, rotate the sleeve 90 degrees and crimp the other end. Never lost a fish, nor an airplane due to slipping lines.

The Nicopress system is designed to be crimped on edge with their crimping tool

Sounds like BUSA did not send instructions with the tool. Try this link - it should give you a PDF for instructions.   It is meant for a different tool, but the application is very similar.   http://l-36.com/manuals/Nico-Press-Tool.pdf

Hello Martin,

please look at the homepage of Toni Clarke.

Toni Clarke has a company in Germany for 1/3 - 1/4 models and accessories, ....WW1 Pup and so on.

Catalogue side 115 is all for the rigging and he writes:

Crimping Sleeves for Nylon covered Wire

Manufactured from a special alloy and nickel plated. These sleeves are simply pressed flat with pliers and then lightly nicked two or three times with a pair of pincers. Sleeves provide a 100 % safe fixing.

http://www.toni-clark.com/

Ido it also and I have no problems but you can call him, he's a very good guy and was born in great britain.

If you need something for 1/4 scale models, than you can get it at him.

greetings gabriel

Thanks guys. I've tried the "on edge" method and it seems to work fine. With the 1/32" sleeves, my crimper compresses the entire sleeve rather than just a portion so that three crimps per sleeve can't happen. I'll take it with me to Rhinebeck this weekend and talk to the BUSA folks there.

Lone Star.

Love the article. Quickly saved it for future use.

Thanks;
