RE: Balsa USA 1/4 scale Fokker DVII from plans
I went to the Toledo show yesterday and picked up a bunch of items for the DVII. Met Glenn Torrence and picked up the strut material and a 1/4 Fokker cockpit kit. Glenn is a very nice guy. The Cockpit kit is a model in itself actually 6 different models. I will post some pics of building the cockpit parts when the time comes.
I visited the BUSA booth and talked with Dave Lewis. I will be ordering the ABS parts for the dummy engine on my DVII from him. I also checked out the new 1/3 offerings from them, nice looking planes.
I also picked up a 24x6 Xoar Axial prop which should look really good on the DVII.
Work on the DVII will be off and on all summer as time premits. Between work, gardening, grass cutting and flying it doesn't leave much time for building.

My wife took one look at the Albi and said there is your next build. I have let her pick the last 2 builds(with a little coaxing in the right direction) It keeps her happy and me in airplanes

I didn't have to go that far on the Albi, as soon as she saw it suspended over the booth she said I like that one.

Mine told me, "Don't you dare bring home another airplane". Then she told the guy I rode up with, "don't let him bring home another airplane".
So we left it at his house!
I wonder if she reads this forum when I'm not home?

The first and last time my wife had anything to say about my Hobby I reminded her how much that ring on her finger cost me each and every day. That was twenty something years ago. Not a word since.

Hey, now that's a good idea VJ!!! Okay, what am I gonna buy next.......... hmmm.........
Ah, but she'd still say "Where are you going to put it?! There isn't any room!!!" Grrrrrr...... [:@]
Eh, whatever...,
David
P.S. And now, back to the DVII ! (Have to mention that because, after all, that's what this thread is really all about, isn't it...)

Well, i gave it a try and the wife said, "You should do the one with two wings, you have had 2 tri-planes already." So I will get one on order as soon as they are ready. So cool. But I think I should have told her I have a tripe on ordere already......Naw!

Good for you JeffEE,
Dave, I haven't worked on the DVII lately. Been working on the Cub and DRI. Going to 2 Fly-In's this weekend. I am also prepping my 25% WACO YMF-5 to go to the WACO Museum in Troy Ohio. I am donating the plane for display in their Hangar. I removed the engine and radio gear. I replaced the engine with a 3/4 dowel rod shaft to mount the prop and spinner. It has been a hangar queen in my basement for about 4 yrs, time to let someone else enjoy it.
Here is a pic of the fuse after stripping the flight hardware out.

Thanks VJ,
I never flew the WACO. I started building my 1/3 scale before I finished the radio installation on the 25%. Since flying my 33% I lost interest in getting the 25% ready to fly. I have since built 2 more planes and another one on the building board.
One of the dangers of starting a build before finishing the current build. After alot of soul searching I don't think I wanted to chance putting it in the air after the 900+hrs of building it so off to the museum it goes. It will ive a long and happy life.

No Big Deal David,
I put at least 900hrs into my 33% WACO and it fly's great and I don't worry about flying it. The thing about any R/C plane is that if you fly it and keep flying it sooner or later the inevitable is likely to happen. With the 25% Waco I figure that since I have a 33% version that has flown and I do fly why risk the 25% version. If I want to fly a Waco I just pull the big one out.
It is getting new flying wires next week to reduce the setup time and get it out to the flying field more often.

That is really pretty! Bigger really is beautiful isn't it. But before I can build any more giant scale, I'm going to have to buy a bigger house. Boy this is an expensive hobby!!!!
Take care,
David

Lippincott? Is that you? Good to see that you are getting away from those performance planes and getting into WWI
I used to fly with you in Anchorage (ARCS) many years ago.
Anthony, good to meet you at Del's memorial fly-in this weekend. Your description of the DVII build caught my interest and I am glad that I found your thread. Paul bought my DVII from me yesterday before I left but I still have the plans, a CNC table and a great deal of balsa, who knows? I might have another DVII for next year.
Hope your grandson likes his new co-pilot.

Thanks David,
Didn't realize that was you setup next to me. Pleasure meeting you. The grandson loves his new co-pilot. Maybe he will let me park it in the back seat of my 1/3 Cub.
I hope to get back on the DVII early fall and have it completed by the time the 1/3 Albi comes out.
Hope to see you next year!!!
