Hey just a reminder that we are having the get together for Del, a week from this Sunday. I know a few of you Indiana and Kentucky boys had put it on your calander, so I hope we get to see ya.
A few of you might know "Teus" here on RCU. He enjoyed Del's build threads and conversation but never met him in person since he is across the pond. It was not practical for him to come to this event, so he sent a gift in lieu of his attendence. He specially made up "10" 1/4scale and "10" 1/3 scale turbuckles to be given away. We will choose a pilot at random and give them away. I can tell you that these turbuckles are a work of art.
As I mentioned before, the club is picking up some pizza for lunch. Just bring some drinks.
If you have a Fokker, please bring it. We will have a Fokker flight after lunch to honor Del.
See you next Sunday.

Joe,
You can count me in. I will be bringing my 1/4 DRI. Del was my inspiration on the build and he helped me alot along the way. I made a couple strut streamers to add to the DRI for the event.
See you there!!

Hi Joe,
I've been called to serve Communion at church this Sunday, so I can't get out of town until 12noon. I'm tentatively going to still try to make it to at least the afternoon's festivities.

I plan on coming up to the event Joe. My wife needs to get out of the house after being layed up for two weeks from a broken leg she did not know she had so she is coming with me. ( Will explain later about broken leg, cancer involved ) I am going to bring my SR Eindecker ( it will fit in the Expedition ) instead of the DVII which means I would have to use the trailer which means 16mpg vs. 11mpg See you all then.

Doug, it doesn't matter what you bring. It only matters how many fish stories you can tell.
Also, JoeD. has to knock the spider webs out of the C130 paratroop dropper this Sunday. You will get to see it first hand before the wings for kids show.

Joe, just so I get this straight....the Fokker Flight will be "after" lunch and NOT at 7am like the club website indicates? I am going to quote Del when I say this "Dawn patrols are all well and good if someone else is up at the crack of dawn and I get to stay warm and cozy in my hotel room".

Yo David...
The club website basically notes the time I will arrive and unlock the gate in the morning... 7am. The flight of the Fokkers to commemorate Del will be after lunch at aprox 1pm. So, yes you can sleep in and have your dawn patrol at lunch time
Anthony...
You can get there anytime after 7am. I am guessing the bulk will not arrive at that time but I planned on getting there early so the out of town folks can feel they put in a full day for their travels.
Basically guys, this is low key and laid back. It can barely be considered an event. It is just a gathering of Del's friends for a picnic and flying.
Also, there was some miscommunication outside of RCU that I would like to make clear........ Del's event is at Greater Cincinnati Radio Control Club "GCRCC" not Aeromodelers, which is the location of ODP. GCRCC is the club at which Del has membership.
Thanks Guys
See you tomorrow!

I just got home from GCRCC and had a great time. It was nice meeting alot of the guys from here on RCU and putting faces with the names.
There was a very good turnout and alot of nice planes and flying. The weather was perfect, plnty of sun and light winds. We took over 250 pics and I am going to post some now and I will sort thru them and post some more later.
At 1:00 there was a Fokker Flight with 8 Fokkers in the air at the same time, very impressive and alot of good flying by everyone. Winterhawk was flying Del's 25% DRI.
Now for some pics.

Some more pics from the day, a HP 0/400 dropping a bomb and a C-130 doing a paratroop drop and a nice flare on landing. Also a pic of my DRI showing it's streamers.

We had a great time at the Von Delby Memorial. Weather was nearly perfect, attendance was good and lots of memories were discussed. Del is missed greatly. Thank you for organizing the event. Del for sure would have approved!
Teus
Thank you for sending the turnbuckles. It is a very nice gesture on your part - I know you couldn't make the trip over the pond to attend but you were definately here in spirit! Oh, by the way......I was the lucky recipient of the batch of 1/3 scale turnbuckles. You do very nice work! Thank you.
WacNut
It was nice to meet you - always good to put a face to a name.
Count again.......I am pretty sure there were 9 Fokkers up for the memorial flight. The was an Eindecker a little late getting airborn.
5 DR1s, a DVI, a DVII, an EIII and an EIV.
That would make it a 21 wing salute! Again, I think Von Delby would approve!
If I can get Rhonda to down load her camera, I will add them to the thread.
In fond remembrance,
Art & Rhonda Shelton

Nice meeting you too Art,
And I do stand corrected, I remember the Eindecker had the prop come loose starting the engine which delayed his flight. It was a site to see all the Fokkers in the air.
Later!!

I had a great time, thanks goes out to Joe and Paul as well as our hosts the Greater Cincinnati Radio Control Club.
Anthony I look forward to seeing your DVII in the air when it is completed.
Give me a couple of years to sell my house and build a new one and I will be back with a new fleet of planes.
