Those are really cool Jim and I can see where those would be handy. But my issue is with the wires being visible.

Won't your pilot sit over them and hide them?

Or do you have enough wire lengths to run them on the sides of the fuse out of site?

Sorry, most planes I have flown had wiring, hydraulics, and control rods running down there so I was suggesting you make like that is what you had. I guess you COULD build a sub cockpit and hide them underneath it, OR a floor with rudder pedals over the wires.

I bought some mini wire clips at Radio Shack this weekend that are only about 1/4" tall with double sided tape on the bottom that seem to work pretty good for my 182. The had a small hole if you wanted to use a screw. They were available in store $3 for 10.

Robert, is there enough slack in those wires to run them through a 1/2" model rocket tube? The tube would be light and would be an effective way to run your wires hidden from view.

Ok gentlemen here is what I did or should I say used, I don't know what this stuff is called. This gives a means for getting to the wiring if ever there becomes a need. All of the wiring has been secured with the exception of the wing incoming wires, they will be secured upon final assembly. I appreciate every ones advice on how to get it done, and the plastic stuff I used may have been mentioned. Thanks.

The making and fitting of the fuse panels has begun.
Most of them are pretty simple but the one on each side that encase the cabanes are a bit of work. Once they are all fitted then I will drill and place the screws per the scale drawings.

The panels have been fitted, they will get fine tuned when attaching. Now to break out the scale drawings and start putting some screw holes in place.

Thanks Flyer, it is starting to resemble something. I am waiting on the glue to dry in the screw drilling hole guide. Just to give a reference to the size of this thing here is me and one from Monster Planes.

Oh, spaghetti wrap. Or at least that's what we call it on the machines we build at work. Hmmm... now I know what I can do on future builds and it won't cost me a cent! Thanks Robert! Good job!

Well, I don't think I'm that short so it must be that big.
I came back early this trip, just did not feel up to clearing another day. Probably won't go back until after the first of the new year.
So I got to work on the panels, the first set was made with construction paper, the second with the metal, and with some fine tuning the third set will be final. Here is three panels I have done today so far. Believe it or not it takes about an hour to do each one, cut the shape from the roll, trim to a close fit, pre drill holes, screw in place, mark perimeter for fine tuning trim, slide wing up to aluminum and mark, remove wing and sheet, trim for wing and fine tune edges, screw sheet back in place, and go to next panel.

Now is when it really starts to look like something. Seems like just a month ago I was commenting on the panels of the sheber pitts. It does look nice though.

Thanks Guys. It is a real PITA to do well, I have been fighting with the one that surrounds the cockpit since my last post yesterday. As soon as I get it finished up I'll post the panels completed.

And I am quite aware that for those that followed the little Pitts, this is a rerun.

But an exciting rerun that no one minds watching. The little one was just a preview to the main attraction.

Finally!!! The panels are installed, short of a few screws that should be here the first of the week. Actually all the screws get replaced with Phillips head. Next is to glass the inside of the piece surrounding the cockpit. That gives it a good deal of support which is needed because of the canopy rails and reaching in to turn switches off. Also have to get a larger coping, the one laying on it is way too small.

The metal work is fantastic! I agree with Mr. V seems a shame to paint it!

Well if it makes you guys feel better it may not get painted, not as metal anyways. It did not conform as well as I would like so I am thinking of using those as templates to make some glass panels out of 5oz glass. Of course being that I moved all the electronics to the rear access is not longer needed so I could also sheet it. I will wait and see how the cowl fit's with the front edge of the metal first being that is the area of concern. I am currently finishing up the top wing, well, fine tuning that is. And then I will place the engine and cowl and see how the cowl fits.
