Phoenix Model CESSNA SKYLANE 182 ARF 1.20/20cc
Hi all
I was wondering if anyone has seen her fly or build the
Phoenix Model CESSNA SKYLANE 182 GP/EP SCALE 1:5 ¼ ARF Size 1.20/20cc?
I have seen a few videos on YouTube but that's about it, also a thread review about the 65.6"Wingspan, but not about the 120 1:5 ¼ Scale one.
I have just ordered one and she should be here some time in the beginning of next week, (hopefully)
I was thinking of doing a build thread of her so any info would be helpful.

Well my model has still not arrived.
I thought by placing this thread there would be more interest in the Sky lane, dose not look like it maybe i will not do the review build of the model here.

Hi all finally she arrived the Phoenix Model CESSNA SKYLANE 182, I have to to say what a nice peace of kit they have put together, The amount of work and details it's unbelievable, I did not have much hope when i saw her in the videos and some pictures, but after seeing her out of the box it simply looks great, just all those pictures and videos out there dose not make any justice what so ever to the quality of build placed into this model.
Here you have a what's inside the box.

Well there is a big deference in the dimensions from one engine to the other.
The OS is much smaller than the DLE,length is one of my issues as the cowl of the model is to short, the distance required by the manufacturer is 140mm to where the spinner ends.
You can see here in the picture taken from the manual.

Before doing any drilling or markings to the firewall, i have tried out first to see how the DLE fit's in the cowl, and she just disappears inside.
Looking good.

After checking on the table for a dry fit.
I have placed a spare engine mount for the DLE20 on the F1, by coping the holes from the template this makes the drilling and installation job much easier, and a great help for centering the engine in it's position with the cowl.

Now it's just a mutter of installing four M5 Nut's and Bolt's of stainless steel to accommodate the DLE20ra.
Nicely done I have placed the bolt's from the inside out with washers then added the nuts with the washers and thread lock, also added four nuts to position the engine in it's correct distance which as mentioned before of 140mm.

As you can see i have had to bring the engine back quite a bit due to the length of the DLE,also i have drilled out a bit the firewall because of the allen bolts that fasten the carburetor is touching the F1.
I have also drilled hole for the throttle arm.
I have also made it fuel proof as the carb is quite close to the F1.

I have installed the engine to the mount and done a dry fit, also i have maid a cut into the side of the firewall so that the CDI Unit cable can go through into the fuselage.
Not much space to install the exhaust pipe, i will sort it out when i get there i hope!!!!!

I bought on E Bay a set of navigation lights made by Turnigy, it's quite a simple unit the operating.
Specification Input: 4-6v Current: 30A Main Board Size: 35x24x8mm LED Wire Length: 600mm/pc Weight: 35g
Turnigy RC LED Lighting System, an easy to use scale navigation set suitable for 30 - 60 size scale model helicopters and planes, can also be used on any RC item as it simply plugs into a spare receiver output.
Included
2 Red LED Beacon, 2 White LED Strobe, 1 Red LED, 1 Green LED Navigation Light, 2 Landing Lights, Includes flush mount LED plugs to install in canopies and wings.

By drilling a hole from the trailing edge of the fuselage, i fed through the inside of the fuselage the cable with the LED light, after feeding the cable through i added the LED holder to the LED light, and now it was just a mutter of pulling back the cable carefully, to place the LED light with the holder into the hole.

I have used a communication cable or you also call it an alarm cable, with this kind of cable the advantage is that it has multi core, so i can do wire ring for the vertical and rear lighting separately as it has a four core cable.
as you can see on the picture i have routed the cable from the front of the fuselage as i will have all the installation of all the wire ring up front.

I have used two of the four core cables and i have soldered it and added heat shrink to the LED cables from the rear of the fuselage as my preferred insulation.
Just a matter of snugly hiding the cables below the tail plane.
