I am copying this post from the Scratch built forum in hope of getting more people to see it. I apologize if you see this twice due to subscribing to both forums
Greetings all,
Has anyone got a system designed or implemented for folding wings? I am curious about how the design considers the various air loads. Especially the wings that fold at the root (near the fuselage). You could fold the wing at a farther station and can do with less strength as the loads are less. But at the root is a different story.
I did a search on RCU forums but most discussions seemed to talk about wings folding in flight!
Thanks

I’m in the planning stage of making folding wings on a 1/6 scale Corsair. My idea was to make it as scale as possible. If it worked on the full size it should work on the model. On the Corsair this will be 1 big air cylinder in the outer wing and a small one for wing lock in the wing stub. I was planning to use a sequence valve (door open – when gear down U.P.3) from Ultra Precision
The project is a bit down the road so I don’t have any pictures or drawings yet.

Bob Holman sells plans drawn by Earl Aunie for folding wings for a Corsair. Go to [link=http://www.bhplans.com]www.bhplans.com[/link] to get Bob's phone number and give him a call. The plans are not listed on his site so you need to call him.
