Default Proctor Nieuport 28 rib question

Years ago I built a Proctor Nieuport 11 from an old kit. The cap-strip material in that kit was a fairly hard wood (somewhat like spruce). For some reason or another I wrote to Proctor about the cap strip material and they said they'd "never used" hard wood for cap strips and to use BALSA on them. I had to use Balsa on a few of the Nie.11 ribs and they were a lot easier to glue up.

Now I'm building a Proctor Nieuport 28 from an older kit and have the same type of cap-strip material -- a fairly hard wood. Can someone with a newer kit tell me if they're now using balsa?

Thanks

I have just finished their Nieuport 11 and the cap strips were balsa.

Thanks Dan. After I posted that question I looked a little closer. Seems that I had a small mix of hard wood of some kind and hard balsa in my cap strip bundle. Made a world of difference, guess I'll have to dig through the bundle and see if there's any more "mix".

My N-11 also had balsa cap strips. I would think that something harder than balsa would not work well at all in trying to get that curve at the front of the rib.

Good luck with your N-28. A favorite of mine.

Jeff
