MALTA MODEL FLYING ASSOCIATION OPEN DAY
Hi,
This weekend our club celebrates the 12th OPEN DAY anniversary. This is our way of getting our modelling to the general public. For this event we invited an Italian world aerobatic champion and together with another British helicopter champ and another Italian jet flier entertained the crowd.
During the event, there was a toffee bombing run for the children and for this year we organised a bombing run where several mini bombs were let on a Japanese tower. We are saving the Kaboooooommmm for tomorrow but today we gave a sample of what's to come!
During this event we had the full size aviation supporting us and two helis from the military attended the show. Tomorrow, weather permitting we hope to have some flypass by several microlights. We also hope to have the attendance of the Hawker Hurricane, from the nearby local aviation museum, which is in its final stage of construction .
I am enclosing some fotos of the event which I hope you will all like.
Thanks
Regards
Reuben

now the aerobatic section! The Giles was designed and manufactured locally and is a very good flyer. It is powered by a 3W 150cc engine.

The Star of the Show........Sebastiano Silvestri......made the plane dance to the sound of music. I can only compare to his method of aerobatics when my elevator and rudder servos go out!!
This is one big modeler!

Here are two scale biplanes and a Skymaster. The scale models were up to scratch. It was a pity that some of the other scale planes had to stay at home due to lack of space. Probably Sunday would be a better turnout for the remaining planes and hangar queens.

Final fotos. I am including two fotos of the helis that attended the airshow. They were on public display but in the end of the show the Agusta Bell heli made a few low passes over the runway to bid us farewell to a very nice day. We hope that the weather holds out for another good performance. Well done lads!

Reuben,
There are some seriously well made scale models there.
Any more details of the MKV Spit?
Rare to see a model of this version with the large tropical filter.
How much actual flying was there or are they mainly static models?
Thank's for posting these.

RE: MALTA MODEL AIRCRAFT FLYING ASSOCIATION OPEN DAY
Hi,
Today's event turned out to be a bit wet as one can see, however, the event was nonetheless a succesful one. We had great fun and I am sure that those that attended enjoyed the event. Once again Sebastiano gave a wonderful treat in aerobatics and the plane danced around the sky to aerodynamic limits. The man has golden fingers and he kept on tickling the radio as if he was a piano player. I am sure that this is a gift of a talent.
KMOT ...scale in Malta is quite high on the agenda and not all scale modellers were there with their planes. On our little island there is another club and a bunch of talented people are there too. I hope I will have the time to visit their event and bring the shots here too.
Merlin....all those planes are flying ones. The Spit is a scale model of an actual one that was flown from Malta during World War 2. Don't forget that our little island played a key role in the liberation of Europe since the invasion on the southern flank was initiated from Malta and also for the downfall of Rommel in thedesert. The Spit is a Flying Legends plane (unfortunately, I dont believe they make the plane anymore) and is powered by a 3W 60cc engine. Like all Spits cooling is a problem and they had to make that little window for some cooling air into the cowl.
Pity but necessary. Not all scale models were there and I can recount a few namely a Cessna 310, DH Vampire (turbine), Grumman Panther (turbine), DH Tiger Moth (Practical Scale), DH 89
Dragon Rapide, Ziroli Thunderbolt, Yellow Aircraft AT-6 and a few others that are still in the making.
Anyway, today I am concentrating on the public event which included a toffee run for children. It was great fun to see the enthusiasm and stamina to see the children run after the sweets were let off from the planes.
Finally, I am happy to note that the control tower was spared and its going to live another day, however, the tank, two planes and a truck did not share the same faith as they were blown up.
Don't worry guys these were all made by styro blocks which my cousin made for the event. It was quite a spectacle to see them going up fifty feet into the air. After that it was cleaning time!
This was just a short report to tell you that R/C is alive in this neck of the woods. In Malta there are about 30 turbines between those that have been self built and those that have been commercially purchased
Right...back to some fotos....hope you all enjoy it.

RE: MALTA MODEL FLYING ASSOCIATION OPEN DAY
Hi Dick,
Well....its almost summer here....gone very hot these last few days. Pity last weekend was not that forgiving but still we had a good time.
If you are refering to one of the two large aerobatic planes well that is a 3W Extra 330 which has very recently joined the flying circuits. Its got a 3W TOC 150cc engine and although I have not yet seen it fly I am told that its a beautiful flyer.
Adjacent to it there is another aerobatic plane and that is completely locally made. Its a Giles and that too has a 3W 150 engine on it. Its a very good flyer indeed and both these guys give us a nice show when they go up one after the other.
Anyway....Happy Easter to you and the family and also to our friends here on the list, especially last but not least my good neighbour, Cairoman.
Regards
