scale chat

I am considering organizing a scale oriented chat and would like some input. I posted this at another site and got very little response but I still think the idea has merit and so would like to throw it out one more time. I have talked to several Masters/Top Gun competitors about participating and all have been willing to do so provided the timing is convenient. Here's what I'd like to get from you guys:
1. Would you even be interested?
2. What format? Just an open forum or should we organize topical chats and discuss a specific area of scale modeling or?...
3. What time would be best so as to make it accessable to as many users as possible?
Please feel free to offer up any ideas you may have on this. I'm all ears. Looking forward to your input. Regards, Chad Veich.

Chad,
I like the idea, but the logisitics is a little boggling. Whenever you involve more then one person in a decision, it is often hard to come to a consesus.
Since I'm in Korea, there's little chance the time would be good fro me unless it's Friday or Saturday evening, Pacific time. That would be Saturday or Sunday morning for me here.
Also, having never been to a real chat room, how would this work? Would we all go to ICQ or something? I have heard of ICQ and my friends are trying to get me on it.
I'll tell you this, it sure would be nice to chat with somebody about scale aircraft. I seem to be the only person here interested in them.

Thanks for the reply Bob. I agree the logistics may be a bit of a problem. Certainly we will never find a time that is good for everybody but if it turns out to be popular we could do regular chats at different time slots to open it up to the most people possible. Because of the international aspect of the web I'm sure there will be those who won't be able to participate no matter what time we choose. RCU has a chat room and if I get enough interested responses I will speak with the admin about the logistics of the whole operation. Thanks again, Chad.

Hey Chad: I like the idea too. You will never be able to satisfy everyone because of the time differences but I think lots of guys would participate. To keep control I think you would have to limit the topics but with a little advance notice left in an open forum could help guys gear up and be ready when a subject they wished to participate in came up. I'm sure on of the forum hosts would eagerly grant a chat title schedule and then you could post the time and date and let it go from there. I think it would work well. My vote is go for it!!!!!

Wow! I had pretty much given up on this idea considering the dismal response when I originally posted (no disrepect to Bob or Jimmy intended there). I guess I may have to dust off this idea and see what we can do with it. Let's have some ideas guys, please! Chad

IRC works well for me..... free mirc client is available at
www.mirc.com, and you just pick a server, and make a channel.
IRC has been around a loooong time.

So what happened, did this idea go down in flames? or are you guys still interested in doing this? I am currently setting up an ICQ channel. Right now the site is down for maintenance, when it comes back up and I can finish setting up the pages and the chat channel, and will repost tomorrow if I can get it done by then.

Chad,
I am trying to get it set up for us. The server I need to use to create a homepage and the chat channel is down for maintenance at the moment. I will continue to check the site and work on it again when it comes up. Tomorrow I will have some more time to work on it as well between coats of paint on the Stang. Hopefully it wont take to long to at least get it up and running. As soon as that happens, I will post a link here and some instructions for those who might need a little help setting it up if need be.

Intrigued ! How would it work ? Probably not too good for me because of time differences - I'm in Bangkok, Thailand. But then again, would there be a record of inputs we could turn to and at least read up what went on live ? MalcolmL

I think it could be done. I am in central US and have a friend I chat with in Malta which is 7 hrs ahead of me. We usually connect abt 7 pm to 8pm his time which is 1 or 2 in the afternoon my time. maybe something along that sorts could be done on a weekend and run it like it would be 3 pm here and 9 pm there not too early for us guys and not to late for europeans.

Fine, Joe, if only 7 hours time difference but I'm 10 - 12 hours different from US time zones. The middle hours of my day is the middle of the night there - and vice versa. But still - let's try - if it's content is good enough, we will prevail ! MalcolmL

Hi Prof - was that in the Service or on vacation ? Pattaya grew some since you were there - in fact it's gruesome now ! Unless you like that sort of thing. Bangkok also grew some too. Sattahip is about the same I suppose. Yes, come flai Thai with us - we have a great field about 30 km (20 miles) north of Bangkok central - black top runways (new east / west runway being built now), aircon model shop, showers/toilets, restaurants, lake for floaties, no insurance needed and any frequency. If you don't bring a model with you, you can fly one of mine. What do you like to fly ? MalcolmL
