Stand way-off scale Lockheed 10
Just had to share a little father-daughter moment.
My 10 year old gets an assignment last month to do a biography report on a famous figure. Of course, she picks Amelia Earhart for her daddy . Plans were to build a plastic model Electra together for her prop. Well, long story short, I spent 3 weeks trying to locate one to no avail. I was avoiding another option since I havent "carved" anything since a soap canoe in the 3rd grade. Anyway, a downloaded 3-view, a few balsa blocks, and 2 sleepless nights later yielded a happy 10 year old.

Thanks Kmot. Dressing in period clothes for the day was part of the assignment.
I actually had alot of fun with it....it was a challenge. The fuse was a discarded wing tip block from a Sr. Falcon thats been in my box here for nearly 15 years. Nacelles were each a piece of 1"sq balsa and the wings were some leftover 3/8" sheet from something. Tail feathers were just 3/32" sheet slotted to fit together. Hardest part was carving the airfoil out of the nacelles to fit over the tapered wing.
Heres another shot with just wood sealer on. I kind of like it better in the buff.

Great daughter and a good looking carving job. That takes me back to another time.
If you get a chance click on my name and go under the blog heading. There is a poem that Amelia Earhart wrote published there along with the circumstance of how I came by it.
Keep up the good work and spend as much time as you can with her. They do not stay that size for very long.

Whatta DAD!!! Pat yourself on the back. As said above more fathers need to be like you. You've given her a number of things she'll always remember.
