Default p-47 lights

Thinking about building a Top Flite Thunderbolt .60 size. I was wondering, did the full size have wing lights, beacon,etc.?

Wingtip lights in the usual fashion. Red on left, green on right. There was a white light on the trailing edge of the rudder about two thirds of the way to the bottom. I don't believe there were any beacon light but there were three rather large lights on the underside of the starboard wingtip, red green and amber from front to back. There may also have been a lamp in the landing gear bay...but I'm not at all sure about that one...

Thanks for the reply Greg. I'm thinking about the .60 size Top Flite Gold Edition P-47 and thought lights would be a nice touch. The rudder light sounds a bit tricky as far as wiring goes. I've been looking for documentation on the Web but haven't come across any yet. Just photos from a distance.

Whatever plane you finally decide on, get yourself one or both of the Squadron/Signal books, "Walk Around" and "In Action". That is, "P-47 Thunderbolt Walk Around", "F4U Corsair In Action" , etc.
They are very helpful in answering those kinds of questions. Also, look around the net for the plastic modeler sites. They are nuts for detail and you can learn a lot from their sites. Here's an example;

WOW!
Nuts for detail is an understatement.
Too bad they don't make them operational.
Thanks for the comeback. I'll look for those books for sure.

Just for interest, you can get operational Nav and Landing lights, both for fixed wing and Helis. Some are considered high intensity and quite acceptable. Available here in the UK anyway, and I'm about to fit some to a heli.
I'll post contacts if anyone is interested.

Default landing lights

The landing light was next to the wheel well and it retracted with the landing gear. you might be able to see that in the books I found it on the net.

RCFlyr The lights on the underside of the right wing tip panel are "Signal Lights" that were used for silent communication on 'Warbirds'. If you'd like to discuss lighting options, I'll be glad to assist you. Call Toll Free . . . . . 888 567-2862 9 to 9 [PST] daily & weekends.
