This is my CD-Scaledesigns Boeing B-17 C prototype. As you can see she's ready to go. Just a few small things to take care of, but hopefully we'll have her ready in December(-ish).

Hi Don,
I guess you know that feeling when it's done, or getting near to being done. This is actually a scratch built I started nearly four years ago. I would never have dreamed at the time that it would take so long, but a lot of things have happened since and I have designed and built several other aircraft in between. I received an invitation to show it at an exhibition in Bremen in two weeks, so I've been getting things done in time to take some pictures for the Bremen catalogue, which is why there is no news on the Pup this weekend. But I guess you're right, after that long time finally seeing it come together with some, albeit make shift, national insignia makes me one proud Papa.

Hi Hockey,
here are some basics;
scale: 1:10th
wingspan: 124"
power: four O.S. 52 four strokes
six channels
Robart retracts
working flaps
weight: 33lbs
Design work started March 2003 on AutoCad. Prototype build was started October 2003. Traditional wood construction overall, glass covered, includes vacuum formed canopies and details like superchargers and exhausts. No additional weight was needed, the model balanced perfectly off the drawing board. There are still a few lose ends we need to take care of, but we're hoping the maiden will be in December.

Chris, your enormous B-17C sure puts my little Snipe project in perspective! Honestly, I've never even thought about doing a build of such size or complexity. I'm impressed!

As you can see it hasn't even been painted yet. We're leaving that until after the maiden. Then we'll know if it's worth using up all those rolls of Flite Metal we bought for it. Nothing looks more like aluminium than real aluminium, but that stuff's expensive. We did paint on some national insignia and some de-icing boots, as it looked a bit bare without them. Hopefully everything will be fine [8D] and in a while she'll look terrific.

Finally, today, we made some testruns with the B17-C, the engines performed well and so did the Perry fuelpumps!
Next weekend some small adjustments and off she goes.....
Let the pictures speak for themselves,

Hi All, and thanks to Frank for posting todays pictures. As he already said all went very well this afternoon, we've tested the OS 52 four strokes with the Perry pumps and and we're very satisfied with the performance all around. Here is a YouTube of todays events for you all to enjoy. Please note this does not show the test flights, it's ground runs only. We deliberately hadn't finalized the CoG yet, as todays goal was to test the engines 'in situ' with the pumps and that is what we achieved. Maybe I'll add another video next weekend with the test flights.

OK I've stumbled across this thread, and now I can't wait to see how she looks finished. Outstanding in every way. One of the finest models I've seen for awhile.

All I can say is, "WOW!" You have done a fabulous and professional job with both your remarkable Sharkfinned Fortress and video. The still pictures of the B-17 being serviced at the field really illustrate the size and workmanship of this outstanding model. Sir, you have much to be proud of, my friend! Fantasitc job!!!!

Hi frank, onwijs gaaf filmpje man!!!!
greetz, Peter

I believe the Memphis Belle was a completely different Mk of the B-17 from this model. Isn't this more along the
lines of the B-17C?

Here is the actual Memphis Belle B-17G being restored to non-flying museum state for display in Dayton, Ohio.

That's what I get for dropping into the middle of your thread :^) Your "C" looks beautiful. Not often we see any C's Stateside. Watching with interest! I saw the Ju88 at 1/6.5 scale. Are the clear and fiber glass components ready for sale? This should make an excellent electric project.

Hi Chad:
Yeah, I thought so as well but found repeated references to the G relative to Wright Patterson restoration. Interesting how historical accuracy gets twisted as the time line grows :^) Found the actual complete model#: Boeing B-17F-10-BO .
Just discovered what "appears to be" an authentic b/w shot of the Memphis Belle. Here is the link:

Just balanced her; you're looking at 2.2 lbs of additional weight in the nose, bringing the total weight on 39 lbs, bit on the heavy side?
What do you think guys, will it fly????
