I am planning on using a military panit scheme on my Beachcraft Stagerwing. There is an insignia on the fuse of the full scale as seen in the attached photo. This is a US Army insigna. I have searched the web (Google) for a good downloadable image of this insignia but can't find a real good one. The Army has a real good web site with emblems and patches but not this one. Any ideas where I can find this insignia?

This may seem ridiculous so please don't shoot the messenger however, legally, by law, you're not allowed to use the seal. This is why you won't find a downloadable version.

The emblem you are referring to is the American Embassy Seal (Depart of State). Here are a couple of links that show the seal;

Perform an advanced search on Google for "American Embassy" and then click on the images tab. I am sure you will find many more pictures of the emblem. Also, if you do the same type of search using "Department of State" you will see many images of the seal.

I'm not going to shoot the messenger, however, you were the one that started your message with "this is rediculous". I am certain there are many seals and insignias being used on model airplanes and other hobbies that are not strictly legal so let's not even go there....

I am building the G17S from Sid Morgan plans. Extremely difficult kit to build (64 inch wing span, 1200 sq in main wings, 187 sq in stab).

What was the info on getting a set of your plans? Where to get them and the cost. How many sheets, etc. How true to scale do they appear? Where can you get a cowl from?

I found a set of plans for a 64" G17S too by Robert C. Sweitzer.
They look like they would build a nice plane too.

I haven't heard what you had to say about the 1/4 scale G17S I was planning to build yet. I am studying the plans and looking at getting material soon. I was planning on putting 2 together to start.

Vic are you doing the Stagerwing in the colors of the one I showed you? Aint it pretty? Take it to warbird fly ins and scale fly ins and I bet you never see another one like it.

Well I found out that these plans drawn by Robert Sweitzer are the same as the Sid Morgan plans.

I just sent away for a copy from Fred Novak.

Vic have you come across any construction articles for this one?

I have not found ANY information on this kit. I asked Fred Novak and he didn't know of any instructions for these plans. As you will find, I have posted numerous articles on this forum with questions about this airplane, other kits, and request for help in building this beast. I have had many kind folks reply and I really appreciate their help.

However, I have only found one person who has built this plane from the Sid Morgan plans. He is in total agreement with me - this is a very difficult kit to build because the plans are very close to scale and there are no instructions. This guy built the plane and sold it before flying it. He made some some construction mods because he did not want the scale details (no functional door, increased rib spacing to lighten the wing, modified the wing construction, etc.). The guy who bought it has not flown it yet - so there are no flight reports availble.

If you find any construction articles or instructions, please let me know.

I hve not ben able to find ANY additional photos of the lane in your photo. Since I am trying to build this plane as close to scale as posible, I have chosen other paint schemes that I can find documentation for the full scale plane.

You mentioned taking the model to warbird flyin's. The paint scheme on your photo is not a military plane is it?

I hate to point this out , but the paint scheme you're using is a D17S. THe G17S didn't come out until after WW2 and was a really slicked up version of the Stag aimed at the corporate market. I like the scheme you're looking at but for scale competition it isn't accurate. NOW that being said LOL I like to always do my own custom schemes so who cares right ? LOL
anyway good luck on the airplane it looks fantastic.

I am painfully aware that the YC-43 is a D17S. I have really done my homework on this airplane and purchased the bible of staggerwing documentation - Staggerwing!" by Robert T. Smith. I have not found a G17S paint scheme that I like (only 20 produced). I was considering making some modifications to my G17S (cowl and tail feathers) to make it "appear" as a D17S. However, I don't think I will be getting seriously into scale contest at this time. Most folks will not know the difference but I am certain that judges at a real scale contest would be aware of the differences and deduct points. I only hope to get into club stand off scale contests at flyin's where no documentation is required. Thanks for the info anyway.

Yes the plane in my pic is a military scheme. This was a plane that flew the big wigs around during the later part of the war. At least that is the story that I was told at Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston Tx.

LOL Sorry Vic I figured you knew that already David Oreck of Oreck Vacuum fame has a Beautiful G17S There are pictures in the Gallery at www.aopa.org it is worth checking out!
