Chevypower 1930,
Sorry, the objective of this thread is to have photos that look so real you can't tell if they are models or real.
Yours definitely looks like a model..a nice model but non-the-less it doesn't look like a real aircraft.

Hi Chevypower,
there seems to be a certain level in this thread above which criticism becomes constructive. Below that - how do you want to be constructive? Change the Landing gear, the propeller, the elevator, get rid of the antenna, put a cowling on, put a scale engine or a mock-up of the engine... Do you want me to go on?
BTW: it isn't an L4 either. Cause the one outstanding difference between a J3 and an L4 is that the L4 had the windows drawn back and above behind the wing.. Check the picture of the full size that I have enclosed and compare...
Sorry, abu is right! No scale airplane! so far off that constructive criticism is difficult...

C'm on now. The buffalo grass definately is not proportonial to the aircraft nor are the trees. Even a fence in the background.
What am I missing here?

sebo,
there are different levels of sophistication, income and investments in this hobby. i am still happy flying 10-20 lb planes where as many at my club constantly search for the biggest aerobatic arf imaginable. regardless of cost. several have multiple 40 -45% sized planes and or jets. others get very excited over a basic arf. i hope you can read between the lines.

RE: Best scale photo!
Hi All:
OK, check this one out. It’s my ¼ scale Wagner Twin cub on landing approach. Now before you go and say WHAT! There is no such plane, check out the picture of the full-size one included, also as in the stanard cub the plane was flown from the rear seat (on the Right) so the pilot isn't visible in this shot.
Frank

RE: Best scale photo!
Here's my heavily modified KMP B-25....
Changed from the Bomber to the Gun Nose.
Used Blue foam and fiberglassed over that.
Custom made Gun barrels all over
Sanded off the original "Maiden" Scheme and used Latex for the new one.
Hand painted Nose art
Fuji BT-24's
JR12X radio
KMP Gen V retracts
Shown with the builder - Flyright.
Enjoy!

David,
and that means what in the context of a scale photography thread?
Sorry, nothing between the lines there....

even i'm on the bandwagon now. this is supposed to be a scale photo thread where your plane is supposed to appear as real as possible. in none of these pictures does the plane appear to be real, especially the last one.[X(]

What is it about this thread that totally confuses people.

RE: Best scale photo!
apparently they can't come to grips with the idea that this thread is for photos of model planes in 'poses' that look as realistic as possible. the idea just totally eludes some of the posters. as i'm typing someone is probably uploading a plane of themselves posing beside their shiny wrinkly monocote ARF with spindly fixed gear and a muffler hanging out. unbelievable.

Yes. 2009 has certainly started out a little rough in the ol' Best Scale Photo thread (save a couple of great shots by Uncle Joe...and Ali's Skyraider).
Might be time for Mustang 51's first post of the new year reiterating the rules. Myself...I've decided to be a little less Nazi in this thread...for as long as I can anyway.
It's driving me nuts. We'll see.

I don't think it's Photoshopped, I think it's forced perspective. At first I wasn't so sure it was even a model. Very well composed photo and good technique. This is what this thread is all about.

TJR1's right..:-) No Photoshop, only perspective. Camera low down, short shutter and wide open iris to get both the plane and the guy sharp. He stands 50 meters behind the plane...:-)

RE: Best scale photo!
Your depth of field is always greater with a SMALLER aperture, not larger.
A pinhole camera is the ultimate for depth of field and would even have that grass sharp.
Nonetheless, a good photo.

I think if the foreground grass was sharp, the photo wouldn't have worked as well. Whatever aperture he used was perfect. And as an aside, what a beautiful backdrop.
