Default primer

Kevin, I've been using the Pactra Prep Primer and like it very much. Good filling qualities and it sands very nice. Regards, Chad.

Kevin: I first fill using Automotive Body Putty. Let dry, sand, and then spray on a couple of coats of Nitrate dope, using it for the primer. I find that nitrate sticks well to polyester, fiberglass, and most all synthentics, providing an excellent base.

Pactra Prep. You'll never use anything else.

Thanks very much guys......one way or the other there is a workable solution.
FYI I have been doing a little experimenting with dope over latex house paint primer......looks promising inasmuchas the primer sticks well to the fibreglass, and doesnt seem to be affected by the dope.....we,ll see......

Default Been There Done That

Your proceedure of mixing up the finish types may work initially. However around one year from now after heat, cold, exhaust oils have worked their duties, you ought to have some separation of the two finishes.

Stay with one type of preparation and finish coatings.

I will be using latex paint on my next project, but it will be clear coated for fuel proofing. My research has shown that latex sticks very well to fiberglass but is not fuel proof with glow fuel. I wouldnt use it as a primer.
