Nice going Tom. Yes a video would be great! Do use YouTube, least amount of problems and more exposure.
One comment though ... She looks a bit more on the scale side ... your type-A personality took over I see.

Here is some fun stuff I wanted to post just to inlighten you guys on some past experiences of my flying thru the years. When I break a prop on my scale aircraft I save it, write what happened on it with the date. I must say I read back on some of these and laugh and NOT laugh! Planes gone by, Memories, Fun stuff. As you can see I try to make my props look like the real ones, a little sand paper and stain, and varnish with a decal really helps in the scale look! I will be posting pic's of my Fokker E.V. prop soon that Iam working on, to show you guys how I like to do this type of detailing. There is a prop in this bunch that got me good yrs. ago, 36 stiches on the inside muscle and a bunch of stapples on the outside on my right arm!!! Tom P.S. The prop was on my scale Fokker D-7

Hello, The last few nites I've been working a little on my flying prop and dummy engine. Tonite I'll post some pic's on the prop. I like to just take the prop, rub it down with lacqure thinner, to remove all the varnish and any stamping from the maker. I then sand it smooth, after that I will lay out the laminates of a real prop with pencil. It's easer if you have a photo to copy or drawing of a axial prop. I then take dark mahogany stain and brush in the laminates. Let it dry a nite. Then I rub in with a rag on the unstained area with a pine color stain to darken up the wood a bit. After that drys I poly the prop with one coat brushed. Add my decals after the poly dries, then repoly with one more coat. Finished, it adds some more scale detail to the airplane. I really don't like seeing a store bought prop on the front of a scale model. It's cheap and easy to spruce up a flying prop. I'll try to post some pic's of the progress on the dummy engine tomorrow nite. Tom

Tom!! Hey, I just checked in to see what you were up to. Jeeesh!! You have unbounded passion for those Fokkers, when do you sleep?? Was that you in the pic with the 1/3 D-VIII? If I was still living up there you would be all over me to work on some scale project but that old passion I had has diminished but I am still building. You'll see when you come to visit. What?? What did you say?? By the end of the year?? OK...good. Everything looks just great on your FUN scale. It's fun hearing you call it "fun"scale. Jack the puplover

Here are some shots of the dummy engine so far. When I got the airplane there was three cylinders on a peice of plywood that was screwed to the old fiberglass cowl. I took these three cylinders apart cleaned them up a bit, and repainted them with primer. I then made an extra cylinder to match what I had. In the pic's you can see how I reproduced what Bill Killiam had already built. I will now start making a newcrankcase to install them too. Then mount it to the firewall around the gas engine. This is a cost effective way to make a fun scale cylinder for rotary engines. Some balsa , plywood, dowels and washers. I will be making the crankcase out of pvc pipe. Next I will start to make an intake tube out of hard wood, make a mold with that then cast the four I need from resin. paint them brass and add them to the cylinders. Thanks for looking, Tom

Hi Guys, Today I got to go in the shop instead of mowing the grass!!!!! Plus, The little woman and son's were not home!!!! Wow, peace and quiet! I managed to get the cylinders on the crank and mounted to the firewall. I used a peice of pvc pipe for the crank. I mounted it with chrome molly steel tube JB welded to the crank and the ends crushed and drilled to allow a screw to hold the engine on the firewall. I also made a air intake tube for a mold which I've also been coating with latex mold all day. So far I have 5 coats on it. I hope it will work. I will pour resin in the mold to make the tubes. I will post that process later after I've worked on it more. When the engine is completed it will get a coat of steel buffing paint. The prop hub plate was also added to the flying prop. Tom

Hey Tom, just poped in to catch up on your progress (just got back from the Hoosier Dawn Patrol at Muncie). The engine is looking awesome........If you find yourself with nothing to do for a couple evenings, I could use about four cylinders.......
Looking forward to seeing all your handywork at Dayton next month.

I have some more work finished, pic's to post. Here you see how I made my air intake tubes for the UR-2. They certainly are far from perfect but will work fine on my fun scale Fokker. First I cut out a ruff tube from pine. I then shape it best I can to fit the dummy engine. After sanding and sealing the wood with thin zap. I start brushing on the laytex rubber mold compound. It takes at least 7 to 10 coats. Be prepared to take your time on this part. Two days later I removed the plug and started pouring the resin. I was lucky to get three out of the mold before it went bad on me. So I ended up using the master plug for one. I then fit them to the cylinder and crank. Added my push rods, painted the intakes, made some spark plugs and finished up the engine.I will post futher pic's of progress.

After finishing up on the air intakes, I then painted the engine with steel buffing paint from testors. I then was able to glue the tubes on that were painted with cheap copper paint from walmart. I made up some sparkplugs with some screws, plastic and aluminum tube. added my nuts and bolts to front plate, a little rub down with my fingers on the engine, and finished for now. I'm planning on doing some weathering with varnish to simulate burnt and dripping castor later down the road when I weather the airplane. More pic's, Tom

Everyone, I need your advice on the color of my tubes on the engine. My woman just informed me they do not look like a copper color! I am color blind, really bad, so I guess I will probably repaint the tubes something? Any comments and ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
