Dubro Vintage/WWI wheels
Anyone have any good ideas on how to make these wheels look a little more scale?I really don't want to make wheels from scratch but I may have to if I can't find a way to improve the way they come stock.Just for your Info I plan to put these on a 1/4 scale Albatros DIII.

RE: Dubro Vintage/WWI wheels
I had a set of AZM wheels that I got with their DVII ARF,didn't like them so I sold them.I put a set of Proctor wheels on.They look great but are a little pricey and also a little heavy(1 lb 14oz.a pair IIRC).Also I am building Austro-Hungarian built Albatros and they had fabric covered wheels and not the aluminum cover plates.
I wonder if I can pry the two halves of the Dubro wheel apart so it would be easier to work on?
Thanks for the tips.BTW,Bobh, the first link you posted comes up gibberish.I hope it not just my computer. The second link was a very nice study, Thanks.

RE: Dubro Vintage/WWI wheels
Well,I pried apart the two wheel halves and it took a bit of force. Also, I didn't break the joint in the center but rather the plastic outside of the joint. I still think it is fixable though and now I can easily work on improving the looks of the wheel (hubs).

Herbie wheels makes nice spoked wheels too (and they're not far from the Pfalz factory in Speyer!!)

Lighter than the AZM wheels. Haven't seen the Proctor so I can't compare.

Seth yea those are very nice wheels!
One more source but not German wheels. Mick Reeves sells 1/4 scale wheels that are light and have the wires exposed via the air fill hole in the covering. The covers are plastic but you can cover them with fabric and they are pretty convincing.

RE: Dubro Vintage/WWI wheels
Are the Reeves' wheels still the plastic baby buggy wheels and tires that you put plastic covers on? I really like those wheels and used to get them from Bob Holman, but last time I checked with him he said he didn't have them anymore. They are the perfect size for 1/4 scale DRIs and with some shaving and swapping of the covers look pretty darn close the the "German style" wheels.
I think I may have a bit of a wheel fetish.

RE: Dubro Vintage/WWI wheels
Thanks, it's good to know that they are still available. Now that I have the Dubros apart though,I think I'll try and see what I can do with them.I think the slightly fatter tire might look good on the A-H Albie.
