Default Aerotech P51 engine options

Hi I am hoping for opinions on powering an Aerotech 1/5 scale P51 AUW 22-24 lb, with a large four stroke, either a Saito 200 V-twin or a Y.S.140DZ
I want to use a four stroke for the sound! especially the V-twin.
Any opinions and or experiences using big four strokes in 1/5 scale warbirds welcome...

Cheers-

Ozcan, first let me say. Im jealous!! I know wayne and his wife nancy fairly well. I have always admired his work!.. I think at one time he had a gas engine for that plane (instead addition tof the Moki) if memory serves?.. In any event... I don't know how you would squeeze a twin into the front of the fuse? I would think maybe the New Brison. Revolution 52. would be worth looking at..?I wouldn't want less than the Moki 1.8.. Just my thoughts BobH.

Default Gas engine for Aerotech P-51

Hey BobH and ozcan....

The gas engine option for the Aerotech P51 is a 2.7 cu in Husky Challenger model, with a tuned pipe..

I've had experience with both the engine and the engine builder, Russel Stoltz of Challenge Tools in Elk Grove Village IL and all I can say is you'll definitely get what you're paying for.....this gentleman builds engines for the likes of Tom Cook (the P-38 Tom flies has two Husky Challenger engines in it with custom adjustable mufflers and they're also contra-rotating if I'm not mistaken)...he used to do a lot of engine work for Reno Racer type planes.

The specs for the engine and a picture of it are located on the site...

If I were getting this plane I know this would be the way I'd go!

Default Husky

Bill- I agree it looks like a great engine, although some what pricey? The big question though for me is how does it compare power wise to the Moki 2.1.
Apparently you need a fair chunk of nose lead (approx 2 lb+) to balence the P51 with the Moki also, and I do hate to see dead weight in my models, so the Husky could be a good option...

I just wish Y.S. made a 140DZ V-Twin e.g. - Y.S. 280DZ Now that would be perfect!

Ozcan.. I would go with the gasser if I were choosing.. I have a Moki 1.8 in my Yellow spit and its ok.. but its not super!!.. I would think the 2.1 has more power.. but since you get to choose.. get gas and youll be happy lol... BobH.

Bill, how do you think that engine would fit in my Yellow Spit? I have been looking to convert to gas with an engine that will A. fit within the cowl and B. provide more power than my Moki.. If you are familure with that engine I would appreciate your thoughts... Thanks BobH.

Default 2.7 Gas in Y/A Spit

Hello Bob..

If you can wait a bit I'll take some pics and measurements and send them to you and you can see for yourself (as I'm not familiar with the space limitations for the engine in the Spit)...

Let me know if you're interested...just send an email to [email protected]

Bill, thanks.. The space for the engine is 6" from firewall to spinner and about 3.5 inches wide at its widest point.. I see that the Husky is a side exhaust...which both helps and hurts lol.. wonder if there is a pitts style muffler for that engine?. Thanks for your help.... BobH.
