I'd love to take credit for the Moth and the Cub, but they are the work of Gary Allen, my brother in law. I'm just the pilot in Team Scale. We had some engine issues with the Cub, which got its maiden flight Friday evening at Rough River.

Actually, there were a lot of new faces at the Mint Julep, which is a good thing. I called for a young man (18 years old) named Kenneth Boucherie from Henderson, Ky. who flew his first contest in Fun Scale Novice. He had a great time and I'm sure he will be back.

<w:worddocument><w:view></w:view><w:browserlevel>Well it was my first year. I brought my new L-4 over to give it a try in the Designer Scale. I came into the event with only 5 flights on the plane. First round was fun, as the wind had not picked up that much. I along with most did not fly the second round as the wind was gusting well across the runway. Sunday morning started out good as the wind was still strong but was just about down the runway all day. I would guess by the end of the day Sunday it was around 20MPH. Take a 17 pound Cub and you can have a lot of fun. Full power just to penetrate the wind. It rained on us Friday as we setup. Saturday morning I would guess we got around an inch of rain in less then an hour. We had to move our tents as the water was standing under them. Our group stayed in the lodge and had a nice room with a privet balcony looking out at the lake. I thought the meal get together on Saturday night was fun, good food, good fellowship and some fun jokes on a few. This was a learning trip for me, as it being my first scale flying contest I did pickup a few tips for the next ones. I was extremely happy to have placed 2nd out of 4. I also know now to bring clothing for rain, snow, sun, wind, and rain as we could have a little of it all. I will be back next year and may bring more then one plane. The only thing a little disappointing was in my class they only gave something for first place, and some of the others class the prizes went down to seventh place. But I would say hats off to all the guys that worked the event and made it as much fun as it could be in the mud. Cub Man, Your L-4 was very nicely done, I was flying the Navy NE-1 Cub in Fun Scale Novice and yeah Sunday was fun. My landing on the forth round must have taken five minutes! The wind was so gusty that last round, my struts were cracked at the joint at the wing, glad she survived to finish the forth round! The Club did an awesome job, Art Shelton and Billy Thompson are class act scale guys, looking forward in seeing many of you at the NATs.

I had a great time considering the rain, mud, and wind. Here is a pic of my Sukhoi SU-26 on the runway. I have many photos from the weekend that I will be posting soon.

I like Jetmech 43 's Bonanza so much I'm thinking of building a TF T34. Without highjacking this thread, Jetmech, what did you use for power in the Bonanza?

It's always great when you can find the full scale local. We had a couple L-4's in the area but none were fixed up to the war days so Ihad to go 6 hours away........
