Default 1/5 scale Stearman

can anyone suggest a fs glow engine to pull the 1/5 scale stearman ???, I have looked at a US41 gasser and it looks to be ugly and heavy.

I would prefer to place a single cylinder engine so I can place a dummy engine kit around the engine.

thank you for your time

Hi,
you can use one of the Laser engines the 180 is popular, I am using the Laser 200 V Twin it has plenty of power and flies around at half throttle most of the time.

Robert, take a look at the Saito 150 or the Saito 180. Either one will fly your plane and can be disguised pretty well using a dummy radial. Your next step is to find a suitable dummy radial. There are a few for sale, some are better than others. You need a 7 cylinder so you might check Frank Tiano's offerings and Williams Brothers. Good luck BobH.

Bob,

Can you supply me with a few more suppliers of scale 7 cyl engines that are available in the USA, I have tried Williams and Tiano. I am having great difficulty in finding a suitable engine there are non in the UK and so far no where else except in the USA.

Bob,

Thanks for the information I will try them. Yes I will have to purchase from the USA, it is a good thing that the Internet exists otherwise I do not know what we over here would do. It does not matter what sport or activity I do I always have to purchase items from the USA, we do not seem to cater too well for many interests over here. But thanks again for your help.

Dave, sorry there aren't more sources where you are. But you do have some mighty fine designers over there, Brian Taylor and Mick Reeves just to name a few. Good luck. BobH.

Hi, you might want to check out the new ZDZ engines from RCShowcase.com, they are cleaner, easy to fit inside a dummy engine, gas and electronic egnition, I going to use the ZDZ-80 for the 87" Stearman from Ziroli and it only weighs 4.5 pounds. Have been flying Gas since 1980 and for a 1.39 a gallon, I can fly for two years for what the glow guys pay for 1 gallon. What are you doing for the cabianes, I am trying to find out if they are available for the 87" Stearman, or if anyone knows hjow to make bends with 3/16, wire. The trich is to have a jig of some sourt, I guess, Looking for sugestions. have a question posted. Good luck and best reguards. Larry Dungan

Highflightldd,

Are you asking a question about the Cabanes themselves, their fixings or the Flying/Landing wires?

I built the Midwest "1/6th" scale Stearman (into a PT-17....a "real" airplane), and used Williams cyliders glued to a block of wood, light ply etc, that I fashioned a crankcase out of....minimal work....great results....and has been very durable. (plane has been flown about 5 years now....still going ....great flyer)
Pic is only one I have on puter right now....(have many more but scanner died)
