Here's a comparison of the two CDL looks I've tried so far. The top sample (with the scalloped edge) is the result of mixing coffee with Nelson's flat clear. The lower sample is Minwax PU+stain...which I would then need to fuel-proof. I like the idea of using the Nelsons+coffee only instead of apply "color coats" and then a clear coat. But I like the warmer look of the PU-stain. I can probably get that effect by adding more coffee to the flat clear.

My little detour to repair my Puppeteer is done. It's ready to fly again...though I wouldn't mind replacing the Saito 56 with the same size Saito 62.

Morning,

congratulations
, a finemodel.

Don, I'm looking for a German 1/6 WW1 model kit, maybe D7, B1, LVGor Siemens, Pfalz.

Do you have a source?

Matz

Well, it's just a sport-scale quick-built interpretation of the Sopwith Pup with no frills, but it's a lot of fun to fly and I can use all the practice I can get! Good and really scale kits of German WWI aircraft are scarce at any scale and particularly at 1/6 scale. To be honest, the only 1/6 scale WWI kit that I would bother with at all at this point is the AerodromeRC DVII (designed for electric). In terms of plans, the 1/6 scale plans of the LVG VI by Frank Mizer are a work of art in themselves. The prototype took Best of Show at Toleda several years ago. You can order the plans through the Flying Scale Models website.

There aren't more than a dozen truly scale WWI kits anywhere in the world. Many of the AerodromeRC kits are reasonably scale, but they're mostly small electric models. If you're interested in one of the Albatros fighters, the FunAero kits are good value for the money (though perhaps not when you include shipping to Germany).

Here is a photo of a 1/4 scale enlargement of the side view from the Mizer LVG VI plans. I could just look at these all day!

Don, so I will study the material.

But, I search not a scale model, I will buy a good flyable and beautiful 1/6 model kit for my son.
I have no time to construct him a complete model.

I was guessing it was something like that. The Flair sport-scale (glow-powered) DVII is 1/6 scale and not that bad looking. This is the same company as my Puppeteer. The airfoil is not at all scale but with a little work it can look nice...and is reportedly a very nice flyer.

But I would strongly recommend the AerodromeRC WWI kits...might be just the thing for your son!

I mean the 2-seater CIII. Personally, I've never been inspired by the Albatros fighters. I don't know why.

Hi Don, I too have the Mizer plans, 1/6th scale I believe, for the LVG VI and agree thay are exceptionally well done. It is really tempting to see them enlarged to 1/4 scale as I do intend to scratch build one at 1/4 scale some year soon. When I do it will be an all out fully detailed scale effort - it is such a beautiful machine isn't it, and there is a plethora of visual info on the web for scale accuracy and detail. I will wait though until a little more experienced and ready.

In the meantime I need to practice my scratch building skills with a 1/4 scale Fokker DVIII or perhaps a Morane Saulnier Type N with wing warping. I am leaning toward the Morane Saulnier - very aerodynamic for the time and quite a sleek little French fighter of 1915! Have already started drafting the plans, just need to wrap my head around how to "easily" detach all the flying wires so that the wings can be removed to fit in my vehicle.... some thinking to do. When I get it going I will probably start a build thread.

Nice job on the Puppeteer, looks great again.
I quickly looked into the Flair Kits but cannot find any price list? Can you point us in the right direction?

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks Brian,

but I wanted a special 1 / 6 model (german), it should be for my son.

I think the Flair models are the same as Jamara?

Is it so?

Heeee Don,

the companywhich builds my scale propeller, has all the flair model kits.

Okay Matz, consider this one - a 1/6 scale German Fokker Eindekker EIII, 66inch wingspan, from Aerodrome RC. Two variations, one with a scale undercambered airfoil, the other a flat bottomed - maybe better for your son.
check it out at http://www.aerodromerc.com/ click on Models, Short Kits, scroll down through the German section to the Eindekker III 66".

I'm considering one of these for my son...

Matz... how about a VK Fokker DRI kit ( think its 1/6 ?)...check out Proctor Enterprises website....pretty true scale but maybe too much work and detail for your son.

I also thought of suggesting this one...and have thought about getting one for myself as well. But if you read the flight report in the downloadable instruction manual, it may not be an easy model to fly due to sensitivity from the scale full-flying elevator. By the way, I like the way this kit uses thin full-span ailerons instead of the usual cutout type. This helps maintain the illusion of wing warping.

Brian, Radical RC sells the Flair kits in the US. You also used to be able to get them from Third Coast Hobbies. The prices seem to have gone up a bit since I bought mine. But these really are just stand WAY OFF scale and they're really only worth building to have a nice sort of practice model. I built mine, from box to maiden, in six weeks.

I like the VK kits nicely made, and My Dr1 flies pretty good. The Flair DVII will be a good flier.
That covering you have is the 21st Century; what BobH and I were wondering is if you had a source for the old Super Coverite in Antique.

Thanks all for the help.

@TFF
The old Coverite that I have, are the remaining stock from the Graupner program.
That's not possible to get, the old Coverite has a darker color, more antique
.
I will show you the Russian side model.
Do you know this?

да, я увидел это!

Someone from this company posted a "build" thread for the DrI a year or so ago. Their models are both amazingly scale and yet curiously off at the same time. Also amazing is that almost the entire airframe is made of ply.

Hi,

Now I've found a ww1 kit.
A Fokker E III by Graupner, not a scale kit but ok.
