Schneider/Scarff rings
Here's the place to post photos of that cool looking Scarff / Schneider ring on your model. Or that photo of one you took at a museum or found on the internet! Or just to ask a question, like mine: Has anyone seen a diagram or photo that shows how the Schneider ring used on German WWI aircraft actually worked? Not just the ring part sticking up but also how it was supported and what sort of visible structure might be seen from the top?

RE: Schneider/Scarff rings
BTW, I read on a great German WWI history website yesterday that Emil was a nickname for "the pilot" and "Franz" was the term for "observer." So a WWI German "Emil" might talk about "mein Franz."

RE: Schneider/Scarff rings
like this? (from wikipedia and others)
looks like the frame encircling the gunner was two parts: a fixed ring and a rotating bezel with the gun mount thereon attached. In one of these phtos it it looks as if the fixed ring is also two part; first part the mounting to the frame work under the canvas withe the ring track sticking up/out and then a collar to clamp the canvas to the ring track (b&w). in the other it looks like the ring track is part of a larger aluminumn/metal plate attached to the frame with the canvas then laced to it.(colour)
I'm actually a WWII a/c type, but you pose an interesting research topic.
