Neil, like a said, it's all to sharp mate. Can't you get some fingerprints on the lense, wrong shutter speed, wrong f-stop... make 'em look more normal.Wicked stuff.

RE: Favourite Scale Models in Flight
Hi David,
This new Canon 7D is a superb bit of kit. This was only the 2nd time out with it & I'm still working everything out - perhaps when I do get to know how it all works, then things will cock up - at the moment the camera's cleverer than me[]
TTFN,
Neil

Neil, I too recently upgraded to the 7D from a 350D, and am completely in love with it. I usually shoot in full Manual, but have recently been shooting useing either AV or TV mode. I'll be useing a rented 300mm f/2.8 IS USM on it later in the spring, and am really looking forward to it. I haven't shot any video with it yet, have you?

Hi TJ,
No videos yet, although I have seen a couple using the 100-400mm L lens & they don't look to bad at all. Trouble is, you really need a very fast C/f card to get a smooth video. I think using the 300mm f2.8 prime lens will make your set up brilliant. I'm seriously thinking of getting the same lens - but need to do some serious saving - so we'll have to wait & see if I can save enough cash up.

Neil

I'll be renting it for a ten day period. I can't yet justify buying it outright, although I'd like to . I don't really have any interest in using my 7D for video, I mainly bought it for the 1.6 crop sensor for just this type of work.

Hi Neil, Gregg, Mark, Mike et'al
GREAT photos everyone!
I do have a request for us here in the U.S. ....could you guys take some photos of the flying sites as well? ...Maybe a panorama showing the surrounding area, ie, the local countryside. It struck me while viewing these terrific shots, that I wish I could get a better 'feel' for the local environment.
Neil, the photo of the Tiger Moth making a low 'show pass' made me wonder "where is this flying site"? "could it be an old RAF aerodrome"?
I'm always curious about where people are flying models. It looks like you have some very attractive locales.
I also love the shot of the Mitsu A6M low pass and your 'camo' Hawk looks fine in the original format.
So, thanks from us yanks...Keep 'em flying!
Ken.

Neil, Here's a photo of my DHC-6 Twin Otter doing a steep approach during Scale Masters years ago in North Idaho. The flying field was near Lake Pend Oreille and it was beautiful place to fly.

Hey Gregg,
Yes, that's more helpful, but also they're more interesting and exciting (IMHO) to view then just closely cropped airplane pictures. They tell a story. Sometimes when viewing a close cropped photo, I think, why not just post a static photo. This IS just my humble opinnion, as I have a personal preference for plane pics that also capture "flight".
and in order to do that you have to include a reference point. All (blue sky) backround is uninspiring to me.
I realize we can't always get the backround we want in our photos and shooting a model going by at a hundred miles per hour (or greater) is a daunting task at best. So I commend and applaud the effort made here in this thread. Many awesome images.
Here is a good example of what I consider 'Capturing Flight'...posted by Mike Bealmear - Lucky Dog.
I hope I haven't offended anyone. I really enjoy all of these photos.
Ken.
also love the Twin Otter pic.

Hi Guys,
More great pictures - love 'em[8D]
Ken, the picture of the Tiger Moth was taken at RAF Barkston Heath, which is still an active RAF station during the week. I'll bear in mind what you say about the background - I'll have a look through the picture files & see what I can find - I still have more than half of last years 'stock' to sort out so I'm sure I'll be able to find more pics with a bit of background.
TTFN,
Neil

Hi Matt,
Welcome - glad you joined in[8D] Love the B-17 flying passed the control tower looks PDG. I've only just got to the Duxford pics from last year - so just in time for one of my favourites from 2009 - You might recognise the model............

Hi All,
Very quickly here are a few WW1 Dawn Patrol pics - more to follow.
Ian Redshaw's superb (but not quite finished, at this stage) Sopwith Camel.
& I had to post the B-17 pic, becuase it was possibly the best bit of airmanship of the 2009 season. Landing an 18ft 6ins wingspan B-17 on one engine takes some doing[8D]

Was that shot at Hoosier Dawn Patrol? That's a beautiful bird. I wish there were some Dawn Patrol gatherings down here in my neck of the woods. Any of you guys going to "Joe Nall" this year?

It was the pilots and planes of the Hoosier Dawn Patrol, but they were at the Louisville, Kentucky Wings for Kids Airshow.
