Default Lockheed Vega

Anyone know where I could find a good Lockheed Vega kit? I would like to power it with a gas engine around 60cc or under.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/product_gu...fm?kit_id=1779

Seems this company is out of business. It would be great if I could find one of these for sale <br type="_moz" />

Cool. I signed up, looked around and searched, but didn't see an actual build thread of his on one. I think I saw a picture of it on a fly-in thread and if that's the same plane you're talking about it looks sweet.

Cleveland model and Supply has plans that are reasonable quality and price. Get some books for documentation and have at it! I have a Cleveland Air Express plan and it would make a nice model. You can lurk on RCScalebuilder for free. I have a book on Lockheeds (can't remember name) and it has many N #'s and their color schemes. Paul Matt did a 3- view for a Vega which could be enlarged.

Iwould really like to find one that's built already. Or pay someone to build it for me - I just have too little time I'll keep those plans in mind - it's a beautiful plane and Iwould like to do a 1/4 scale if possible. A Saito radial would be a good fit Ithink as well.

If you're interested in plans building, I have a set for a 60 or 70 inch Vega (haven't looked at them in a while), I'd be willing to copy for costs. Unfortunately, due to a previous rip-off by a Norwegian modeler, I'd have to have the estimated cost up front.

PM me,
Walt

Not that this helps you, but I just scored this very kit. On another site, I had posted that I was interested in obtaining it. It was a while ago, too. Out of the blue, a gentleman offered to sell me his kit !

My advice is to have patience. One will come your way if you can wait long enough.

This kit seems to be as rare as a hen's tooth. I was fortunate to have it come my way. I wish you well in your search. Be patient.

Definitely seems rare. Have any pics of yours?

Ihave time to wait and other planes to get going, this is more of a long term project.

I have yet to receive my kit. Hopefully, it will arrive next week.

I'm in the middle of a long range project right now. (Cessna 195) It'll be quite some time before I begin my Vega.

I have the plans for a 100" Vega from Pepino and I would like a kit cut. All the supplyers are too busy filling orders to take new jobs( Laser lizard, Precision, and Kitcutters ).
I know Hostettler's kit is available, but I'm a scale buff and I want something other than sport scale, so i want Pepino's kit.
Thanks, Dennis

Hostetler Vega ? I'm not sure that he has one. The IKON version, is the only kit that I'm aware of, and Pepino the only plans set, in that size.

Maybe these guys could cut a kit from your Pepino plans. http://www.lasercutusa.com/

Tom, Thanks for the help, your correct the Hostetler plans are for the Sirius. I'm planning on doing a Vega and then an Orion. Been collecting documentation for years and I'm finally going to do it.
Thanks again DOC

I'm just beginning to collect Vega documentation. Do you have anything that you'd care to share online ?

I haven't checked in quite some time, but monocoupe is building a Sirius over on RCSB. Years ago, he had a Vega build, too.

Tom, The best source for info is in the book " Revolution in the Sky" by Richard Sanders Allen.
It's full of pictures and stories and it lists every Vega built including SN and customer.
Wylam's drawings are very detailed on the Vega, Altair and Orion. I'm fortunate enough to have known Walt Jefferies and he gave me drawings done for Airtrails magazine. Walt did much of there cover art. He also designed and built the Starship Enterprise, used in the TV series. I still have some Balsa wood he gave me from the billboard Paul mantz flew the Twin Beach thru in It's a mad mad mad world.

Here are a couple of drawings of the 2 Standard Oil's Vega's. Very colorful and a good story of an attempted around the world flight by one of these aircraft is in the book.

Thanks for the info and drawings. It's nice to see schemes other than those at the Smithsoian.

I am about to take delivery (to Cambridge, England) a full kit cut from the Jim Pepino plans. However it seems supply of the other (plastic) items is impossible. Is there anyone out there who has experience in building the iconic aircraft from Jim's plans and can advise where (or how) I get items like the cowl and wheel spats. I'd welcome any useful knowledge such to give me the best chance to build this aircraft to the quality it deserves.
Here's hoping someone can help...

Fiberglass Specialties make Cowl and wheel pants for the Hostettler sirius. They should work.

Thanks for the tip. Are you aware of any other (critical) parts that are required? I'm trying to collate all items to KitCutters so that I have a single shipment from the USA.

AVAIOJET
I have had a good look around your site but fail to find Vega graphics. Please steer me in the right direction if possible.

Thank you both VERY much indeed for your interest in trying to help me.

Much appreciated.
