Default What plane is this?

Hello all. I got this plane in a trade last week. It is called a "Viper" and is built from RCM Magazine plans. It was originally designed as a 3-channel plane for .10 to .15 glow power and some talented individual scaled up the plans and scratch built a 72 inch 4-channel version of this plane that actually flies rather well. Judging by some of the unique characteristics of the plane such as the unique landing gear with open wheel pants, air scoop under the nose, exhaust ports along the top sides of the nose. antenna mast behind the cocpit, and the wing's trailing edge tapering in at the fuselage sides, I can't help but think that the "Viper" is actually a fun-scale model of an actual plane. I just can't imagine anyone putting unique features like these on a "made-up" model. I can't find anything on the internet that even remotely looks like this plane.

I've attached a few pictures of my plane and the one from the RCM Magazine plan sheet web page.

Does anybody have any clue as to what this plane is a model of?

Welcome to the RCU forums, holeshot9g!

Since the original has the RAF decals, it may resemble a Britain military trainer of the 30's.
The look is similar to some designed by Boulton Paul Aircraft.

By chance, I came across a model for the Vicker's Jockey on Aerodrome RC and it looks like this sport model was modified in that direction.

Looks like it could be inspired by the French Dewoitine D.510.
