which cub??
im lookin' at Sig 1/4 cub and balsa usa 1/4 cub
which builds easier? which has better ground handling? or isnt this gonna matter and any other differences? thanks |
RE: which cub??
I cant say much about the Balsa USA kit , I havent built one .
I have built a few Sig 1/4 cub kits . They build fairly straight forward w alot of cutting out small parts from stamped sheet balsa (not too bad..) Both planes do fly very similarly , If your going for scale looks I would go with the Sig kit (just my opinion...) |
RE: which cub??
Both fly great!
Ground handling is not an issue with either because of the long wheelbase (54" ) Both require a lot of gluing sticks to other sticks Neither are particularly scale. The BUSA Fuse is 1/4" wider than the Sig Sig can be built with one or two piece wing. The BUSA can only be built as a 2 piece wing The BUSA cub has a scale door/window, so a believeable cockpit can be built, if desired This is a pic of a scaled out Balsa USA cub http://www.fubarhill.com/images/lhcub1.jpg ...and this is a pic of a scaled out Sig Cub http://www.fubarhill.com/images/Rolly_Cub2.JPG |
RE: which cub??
Fact is.... both kits are mostly lots of sticks. They are both quality kits that will produce a good looking semi-scale Cub that flies great in a scale manner. The BUSA is a bit less expensive. Both offer plenty of opportunity for minor modifications to add as much/little scale features it requires to please you. Look at both and decide which stock features you like the most and how much additional work each will require to achieve whatever scale features you want most. I have the 1/4 BUSA Cub built mostly per plans with STITS lite covering, tapes, fake stitching and paints with a G23 up front. Not exactly scale... but it looks pretty good from 10' as well as in the air! Good luck!
NONY.... that is one fine looking Cub with floats! |

Cubs don't have flaps!
If you want flaps, get a Super Cub! |

How about a clipped wing? Here's mine from the SIG kit. Very enjoyable project and a great flying model. OS FT-160 power, Stits finish.

RE: which cub??
I have built both. The Sig kit is far superior in my opinion. There is more cutting of parts in the Sig kit. The thicker balsa parts (3/8" +) are printed, not die or laser cut. The Balsa USA is all laminated 1/8"material (lite ply and balsa).
The die cutting is poor and laminating is a pain. The Sig is a 5/16 frame, Balsa USA 1/4". The Sig fram is much stronger. |
