Wright Flyer Kit or Plans
 

Does anyone know of a reasonably price Wright Flyer and model would be ok. Electric or Glow. ARF, Full build, or just plans.

That question is too easy as if you want a good electric Wright Flyer at a reasonable price, build the Pat Tritle designed Dare Engineering kit which flies great! About $65 plus labor, covering and hardware. Here is mine with over 100 flights on it. Never crashed in normal flight but did get caught in a tree on the edge of the flight line that reached up grabbed it when I was flying in too close for the club photographer! A fall of twenty feet didn't improve it!:D:D

PS: yeh, there are some plastic ARF's of the Wright Flyer out there but after the Dare Pat Tritle design, I would not want one. Not very scale looking

what engines do you have in it? I have two GWS 300s. Would they work? And battery size.

Using the GWS DXA motors and gearbox, same as in the GWS Tiger Moth. The props are GWS 9-7 cut down to 8.5 diameter. Both props rotate in the same direction as reverse pitch props were not available for electrics when I built it a year ago. Since then, I understand that MPI now has reverse pitch props available for small electrics so I would suggest using opposite rotating (left and right hand) props for someone building a new one. The batt pack is the 8 cell 720 NiMh pack. It weighs 14 oz. ready to fly![:D

OK do you know how much to engines would be? Would a hummingbird 8.4 600 work? It has not been used.

Costs of two motors? About $18 each with a gearbox. As for your speed 600(?)
Hummingbird setup, I have no knowledge of it or what is used for. But, one motor and gearbox wont do it, in any case.

I was just planing on using the battery. IT is not a normal flat battery that is why I asked.

Didn't register as a battery as the Hummingbird name confused me. I guess you could but a flat pack would work best as it rides on the forward balsa shelf just behind the canard elevator position.
Less drag if flat. What is wrong with reconfiguring your Hummingbird pack to a flat pack? I do it all the time. A little soldering and a new piece of shrink wrap tubing, battery size!

If you buy a new flat pack, be sure to get 8 cells if NiMh battery or 7 cells if a NiCd pack. A 7 cell NiMh will not hack it and you will be disappointed. Attached is another modeler's Dare Wright Flyer using a LiPo battery.:D

Ya for a LiPo do you need a different kind of speed controller. I have a gs-100, with a y-harness would two engines work? Do you know of a cheap LiPo charger.

Haven't got into LiPo but you would have to use lead weight to balance if you went with LiPo for the Dare flyer as a 720 NiMh 8 cell pack is just the correct weight to balance the Flyer without adding any lead. So, there would be no total reduction in weight if you used LiPo cells, just longer duration. I can fly the Wright about 10 minutes with the 720 NiMh pack, good enough for me.:D

Ya 10 mintues seems good. I had an electric that would get 6 if I was lucky.[:o]
