Some photos of the Top Flite 182 to the newer 182T. New cowl and a fiberglass rear wind frame. Saito 100 that bareley fits into the cowl. Have much more work to do but feel like I'm closing in on it.

RE: Top Flite 182 conversion to 182T
Danny, Thanks for the nice comments. I have seen your's before. Very nice. That is where I got the idea of hiding the on board glow, switches and charging jacks. I figure I have put about 4000 rivets on mine, both flush and pop. Very time consuming. Made the cowl from scratch. Used the rear window as the mold to make the fiberglass frame. Am going to make new seats for it using the pictures from Cessna's web site. Thanks again, Randy;)

RE: Top Flite 182 conversion to 182T
Randy,
I always appreciate the good advice you offer. The time and effort you puy into your models is obvious. I hope to develop those skills someday. As far as last week goes, next week has to be better. If I don't fly, my planes will stay in one piece, and if I stay home, my vehicles won't have any problems! Sounds like a fun week!!!??? |
RE: Top Flite 182 conversion to 182T
This is shaping up to be a very special model:
Great looking wheel pants Sleek cowl with modern air intakes (Cessna Factory) Tailfin modifications Of course, rivets, rivets, rivets ......and panel lines I wonder if the instrument panel will have radar? Beautiful |
RE: Top Flite 182 conversion to 182T
Thanks Gary, A place called Diamond Panels made the dash for it, in fact if go to there web site the picture they show for the 182T was made from the photos of the full size dash that I emailed them. Won a gift certificate for it at the Scale fly in here last year. How is yours coming along? Randy

Good luck Gary, I really hope everything goes very well. You've earned it after all the hard work. Carving my seats right now, hope they turn out as well as your's. Randy

RE: Top Flite 182 conversion to 182T
Gary,
Randy sent me the pics of your seats. Excellent work!!!! Post some pics of your bird. If it's as nice as your seats, you have one great looking model. Good luck on the maiden! |
RE: Top Flite 182 conversion to 182T
So...let's see the seats. Dang, we got 2 posts above talking about these awesome seats and how the pictures are awesome, yet the rest of us don't get to see them? Why are you guy's making us suffer like that?:)
Pleaser post all pics of everything right now! |

Okay, okay guys, here are pictures of my seats for the Great Planes Cessna ARF. The model’s stock interior, if left alone, looks like the inside of a canoe!! I am covering this all with cardboard which remains flexible and can be removed to enable me to get to the radio gear. I had to come up with some scale "looking" seats so I decided to try my hand with some construction foam. I found that I could sand it without it crumbling to bits.
First I drew a pattern on paper of the general layout of the seat sections (See photo of the real thing). Then I drew this on to a foam block. I then sanded the general perimeter shape. Most full-scale seats have a gentle concave shape so I used a large closet rod with sandpaper to round the centers out. I carefully cut each seat’s section apart and continued to sand and round these edges. Then I glued them back together with RC 56 canopy glue. I did all of this rather quickly so there is a little unevenness with this first attempt as I am not building up a precision scale model, after all I started with an ARF……good only for fun scale contests! But, note their weight on the scale……..next to nothing. The model is being redone in Millenium colors and with flaps. I will post more pictures of the plane after this weekend. |
