GP Ultimate .40
 

I am interested in the GP ultimate, i havn'e built a kit since my trainer quite a few years ago, just wondering if anybody had an insight into the build and how the plane flies, this will also be my first Bi-plane aswell

As far as bipes go it should be a fairly straightforward build. The fuselage is jig locked and the cabanes are already built for you. They are not wire rods either which is nice to avoid. The fuselage is built like a brick firestation with dense balsa so if you can remove some wood here and there that is all for the better.

Thanks for that will a thunder tiger 0.46 have enough power for it?

This model weighs in at about 90 - 106 ounces, but could be more with a larger engine, two servos in the wings etc. The TT.46 with a 10x6 probably puts out 85-90 ounces of thrust depending upon your elevation above sealevel. I'm too lazy to go to the map to see how close Adelaide is to the coast[&:] With an 11x5 prop and 15% nitro you might be able to get a little more umph out of the TT. So, it would fly it and you would be able to do your basic aerobatics.

Most say .60-.75 two strokes and .70-.91 four strokers are better with strong vertical performance.......much more satisfying. You need about a 1 to 1.3 weight to thrust ratio for "good" aerobatic capability. A 1:1 ratio +/- is only fair, but definately flyable.

Ultimate builds great and flys even better. I used an GMS.61 and it has plenty of power. Be careful with the wing incidences and the engine thrust line and the plane will fly very true. With the GMS engine, I didn't need any extra weight to balance out perfectly. I only use 10% nitro so unlimited verticals are not exactly unlimited, but very close. Plane gets lots of compliments at the fields I fly at.
