RE: Best scale photo!
Hello Jet fx.
The pictures of the venoms/vampires must be the first model pictures that I see that have been taken from atop, looking down - and still look like shots of full size aircraft! Wow! They look like they have been taken from the control tower... The other shots: Increadible ramp presence! They look big! And it is not just the angle! What did you do? lens? light? ISO? What is it? Photoshop? In this case I don't mind the landing gears and aileron linkage being obviously of the model variety... |

Some support equipment (tow tractor) and a ground crew or two. I know you...and you don't stop short! Did your gear get through customs yet?[:'(] Paul A shot of a piece of plastic I modeled years ago. |

One of Curtiss' flying tractors (literally). Painted to represent one of the Jennys purchased by the Heddon Tackle Co. of Dowagiac, MI.
Weird? Yep. Unusual,? you bet. ;^) John |

This is a work of art.Beautifully done. Thanks for showing it.

RE: Best scale photo!
John, we gotta have more photos!!!! Beautifully done Jenny and I respect the courage it takes to pick an unusual scheme for some an all-out scale project.

RE: 'nother shot
You're correct about the photographic skills, but that cockpit is something else. There's something I really apprieciate about East European Scale modelling,I don't know if it's a heritage of years of building on a low buget (certainly typical British F4C!!!) or what, but you guys managed to hang onto something that has sadly disapearring the further west you go due to so much factory prefabrication, big bucks and lazyness... A model that looks built... and built and detailed by an individual! Even the old East European Controll Line scale models are works of artGreat job.

RE: 'nother shot
Actually, I love the look of that last photo. It has a definite historical feel to it. And, yes, that cockpit is awesome! Thanks for posting these photos. I also have to agree with David about the tendency towardsbuying rather than fabricating parts. We are all guilty of it. I buy WB machine guns instead of scratch-building my own which I think I could. I buy stock wheels instead of making my own (which I actually have done). The hobby lost something when it stopped by done being 13 year old boys with nothing more than a dime and some pennies and perhaps a few marbles in their pockets.
Mabye that's the real reason I don't like jets. Jets = Big Bucks. |
RE: 'nother shot
And it's not just buying pre fab' parts thats changed the picture... it's also being able to build your own CAD parts using CNC/Laser/water cutters etc etc. Sure they're a one-off, but they produced to production spec. Thats cool... but it tends to alter the tone and manner of the model IMO. It becomes more engineering and less modelling.I'm not saying one is better than the other... just different. As a RC flying school kid at the begining of the 70's I used to marvel at the scale models built by Duncan Huston, Brian Taylor etc.Infact I've worked as a transmitter compound runner at several shows and sat next to their (Very Famous) 70's planes, guarding them... so I have some real experience of exactly how they looked.Marvelous would be the answer... even more marvelous when you concider EVERYTHING was made, mocked up out of bits and pieces you'd have laying around the house. Very inginious.Old school approach, but it has a charm, a certain look and feel. David Platt grew up in that environment... and it's quite clear when looking at his models today.

ORIGINAL: abufletcher Mabye that's the real reason I don't like jets. To dislike jets is amazing to me. To not want a jet because of the expense, or the perceived complexity is one thing. But to actually dislike them? How is that even remotely possible? They are without a doubt the most amazing genre of RC aviation. You have obviously don't have much exposure to jets where you are. |

R/C jets, in my opinion, are the by far the most realistic models. They look, fly and even smell like the real thing. I have been to several jet fun-fly's and when well flown, they are, when in the air, indistinguishablefrom full scale. <br type="_moz" /> |

RE: 'nother shot
THAT is a fantastic thing. Nothing like it. Nothing "ho hum", "piddlin' around" going on when you hear that sound and smell that smell.
Impossible to be an aviation nut and not be in awe of a large scale jet. Many of them have finishes on them that have far more time invested then building and entire model of another sort. |

RE: 'nother shot
On the other hand, some of the work done on jet landing gear is just plain mind-blowing!
