C A P Dauntless
I got some plans and have begun to cut the parts for this beast, has anyone built one?
thanks RCU |
RE: C A P Dauntless
I plan to. Have the plans, cowl, canopy, and a laser cut kit.
I've read it's a good flyer but may benefit from some weight reduction. |
RE: C A P Dauntless
EF, take a good look at the plans , there is a contradiction from the side fuse view , to the top fuse view, their different. the plans also show a 40 size engine in it . The one ken walters
flew in england , was powered by a .90 , he must have moved the fire wall back or something because the drive washer ends way up in front of the cowl , in the position on the plans. once i figure out the deviation in the plans , i intend to try a .90 . but its going to need some type of surgery . I dont think it will balance with a .90 , even though i intend to lighten it some, i'll try it . CG to the nose end is very short on this aircraft. THERE was an RCU THREAD A while back where a builder stated , that his final weight was 14 lbs , tried flying it with an even longer 1.08 and couldn't even get it to rotate . one of the things i dont understand is why their showing 3/16 thick formers in the rear fuse and also the wing center section, this can be lightened |
RE: C A P Dauntless
Yes, there seems to be a contradiction indeed. Will have to check against drawings of the real one to determine which is the correct view!
The firewall needs to be repositioned but seems it can easily be done. A build article in RCSI mentions 12.25 Lb and a 90 two stroke and no problem balancing, but he changed the rear fuse from 3/32 to 1/16 planking. Lots of potential for lightening certainly. It's an old design, but a good basis for improvement. |
