RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hi Dan
That would have taken some time to read the whole thread! [&:] And yes it has been an evolution, for sure. I'm sure Steve would love you to have a "Mini Steve" in your Cessna and the painting can be accommodated to suit your hair colour! There are plans to do women as well as we want an ATA girl ourselves so will be making a female body mould, then it's just a matter of the heads to fit it. There have been a number of requests for Hanna Reisch as well so the girls are well overdue. I know Katherine will enjoy making some "girly" designer casual clothes for Angelina too :) cheers Patti |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Thanks for the reply Patti.
I gave Katherine the details. Looking forward toowning some of youramazing pilot figures. Dan. PS. I had to look up ATA since I'd never heard that one before. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ssed_smile.gifFor anyone else whois uninformed. RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hi everyone, Katherine here, Patti's daughter.
Just wanted to finally hop on and say hi. I'm very excited about all my new projects and challenges and its so encouraging to see/hear everyone being so encouraging and supportive! Maybe it won't be as scary as I thought! I am starting to take enquiries/orders, but as I still have a day job, so I will be doing it all at night and on weekends, so please bare with me as I get quicker and work my way through some of the backlog that has built up! Feel free to PM me or post on here and I will get back to you as soon as I can. :-) Talk to you soon, Katherine |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Welcome aboard Kat.
Pretty impressive you working a day job and getting into the pilot making too. Your parents must be very proud. Maybe this could replace and surpass your day job some day. As the saying goes "You go girl" Cheers, Dan |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Thanks Dan,
I would love to eventually give away the day job! I've been a dental assistant for just over 5 years now, soto be able to work from home doing something I enjoy would be great! All in good time though. Kat |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
And I forgot to mention sorry. I am very very excited about making some female pilots. Would be lots of fun to 'dress up' some little female dolls. :-) So they will be coming, just once again as we get to it!

Thanks Katherine (Kat) and Patti for the amazing work you did on the 1/3 scale civilian pilots for my 35% TMMY Cessna 182.
It was a pleasure working with such nice, professional people. Not easy to find these days. I'm spreading the word, so look for more orders soon. Cheers, Dan PS. I'll post more pictures of the pilots when they arrive and get in the plane. |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Patti, I handed out your website addy and some information last weekend at the B17 Gathering and Scale fly in at Bomber Field. There were some very interested people looking at Doug.
I got to meet LyleV there, I dont know if he looked at Doug or not but he sang praises for your work. Greg Pierson was also there from Piersons Pilots. Later Doc |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hey Dan, I recognize those boys! :D It'll be great to see them in your plane.
Doc - terrific that the Nieuport (and Doug) is getting out and about - a B17 gathering? Now that would have been a spectacle. Thanks for doing some promo for us too. With Katherine on board and doing so much of the work things are streamlining a bit. We've even got Richard's sister staying for a couple of days and teaching her how to use the 3 programs to create heads. Can't have too much help! The new mill and it's cnc parts have finally arrived and Richard put that together last week and just today we made up some wax blocks ready for a first cut. I don't know how many teething problems there'll be but it's going to be interesting to see how much finer detail can be achieved. Less cleaning up work hopefully anyway. Meeting Lyle would have been special, and as you'd know, he is a terrific sculptor. I will sing his praises as well as his work is amazing. The new uniform for Doug is in the wind and he'll look amazing all decked out. At last it's warming up here and we've had a couple of great weekends for flying. About time!!! cheers Patti |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Patti
We dont get as many bombers as we have in the past, There were six this year, the most was 17 quite a few years ago, some of them come great distances, or used to. We had 107 pilots total and I suppose near 200 aircraft, maybe more. Doc |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
ORIGINAL: P4Patti Hey Dan, I recognize those boys! :D It'll be great to see them in your plane. Thanks for your help and getting the baseball cap pattern worked out. Sounds like it was a bugger but now that you have it I'm sure you'll use it on future orders. Great job on the painting too, you're quite the artist! Glad things are going smoother there now with Kat helping out and maybe some others. I think you have the best product available and I selfishly want to see you stay around. I sent a couple guys your way for pilots, had them contact Kat. I'll keep spreading the word slowly. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Dan |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
What's happened to all the bombers Doc - natural attrition? I've had a look at some pics from the Bomber Field on another forum, some big planes there. That's a great turn out of pilots too, it sounds like a wonderful event to have attended.
Dan, it sounds like Kat is giving out a few too many family secrets ;) The cap was a challenge but like all the uniforms, I get there in the end :D She has just taken possession of an 11 week old samoyed puppy today which is going to keep her on her toes as well. It is adorable but she'll have to keep the castings well out of reach - I can personally attest to that [:@] We've just had 2 days of crash course 3D head making with Richard's sister and I realise how much we take for granted! It's something we've worked on for years and gradually learnt the ropes and when you try to condense it, it starts to become rather complicated. I think we've sent her off with her head spinning :) cheers PAtti |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
The economy, or more directly fuel costs, well both I suppose. It's costly to travel long distances but we still manage to draw from the closer surrounding states. We still hear from some of the guys who have made it in the past but cant get away or cant finance the trip/accomodations etc... It's a hobby in the end
Doc |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Oh no! Not a puppy!
There goes her productivity out the window. lol |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hi everyone,
Thought I'd pop on and give an update. Just about complete a 1/4 Manfred at the moment. The new puppy isnt holding things up too much which will be good news for everyone! Glad your happy with the pilots Dan. Cant wait for you to actually get them and eventually see some pics in the plane! Anyway, better get back to work! ;-) Will post some more pics soon as I make my way down the list. Cheers, Kat<br type="_moz" /> |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hey Kat and Patti,
The pilots made it here today. They look fantastic! I made an unboxing video for YouTube. Thanks again, Sincerely, Dan |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Dan that is fantastic to see the unwrapping! I couldn't believe how squished the box was, man, they must throw them around. I'm glad you got them straightened out though:) Yea, the hands are a bit of a worry in some positions but remember, it's a flying grip ;) We'll have to do a relaxed right hand for Manfred.
The new mill is having some expected teething problems. We started cutting the first new head this morning but with the constant up and down on the Z axis it's wearing out the thrust bearing. So Richard is replacing the hefty 30kg motor and gear box with a 6 kg spindle. It's all new again but we're working through the hiccups. We can keep drawing the faces in the meantime and then once the cutting is sorted again that should be quite quick. Also some new hands :) cheers PAtti |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Dan, that's brilliant!! Loved the aussie accent!
I can't believe the box either, had a little heart stopping moment when I saw it and thought they didnt make it! Glad they are safe and sound and your happy with them. Cant wait to see some photos of them in action! Cheers, Kat |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Yea, There really great.
I have a friend from Aus. that comes to visit with his family somtimes and Istart topick up some of the phrases. They just laugh at me. lol I drilled the hole for the microphone and it fits nice. can I use silicone sealer to hold it in or what do you recommend? |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Dan, we've used super glue on the casting material, just a drop on the end of a toothpick would do the trick or otherwise canopy glue would work and it dries clear. You'll only need a drop of whatever you use. Maybe Steve can tell us what he used if he checks in?
Katherine was around this morning packing up a 1/4 scale Manfred - yes John - AT LAST! You've been waiting a long time but he's finally on his way to you:D She also brought her puppy who loves to destroy my garden and she and our dog chased each other in and out of the house stopping for a cool off in a tub of water on the way! I'm sure she'll be back later to clean up ;) cheers PAtti |
RE: Scale poseable pilot making
:DGood news!!!...........John

Patti thought you might be interested in this utube vid ,if you haven't already seen it.
Really quite sad when you see all those young faces mid way through knowing that nearly all perished. Hope things are good with you guys, Steff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dMhfId0WO4 |

Manfried arrived yesterday in an INTACT package and the contents were well protected by air-bag padding. The likeness is superb, the Baron himself would be pleased with the resemblance. I already have one clubmate interested in Kate and Patti's products..............John

RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Congrats John, you have the finest possible aviator for any thing Manfred flew. Thats a lot of airplanes especially counting observer/gunner time.

RE: Scale poseable pilot making
fantastic work Patti, and the hands are also outstanding.
