6 volt battery chargers
I am bulding a Robbe Neptune Tug boat and it uses a 6V gelcel 4AH battery. I need to find a charger, prefferably not too expensive, for this system. I also have several pc boards that are for lights, and sounds.but over the years I have lost the directions and what they are for. Does any one have a robbe catalog that can help me id them?
Thanks Gloria

Glo4U,
Try your handy-dandy 'WalMart' special (ordinary 'trickle' charger)! Usually comes for both 6 and 12 volt batteries. Works fine, lasts a long time...

RE: 6 volt battery chargers
Hi Gloria,
I have a robbe catalog, and the pc boards recommended for the Neptun Tug are: Dieselsound (8276), Fog horn (8300) and a waterpump (1563), which obviously isn't a pc-board.
List your article numbers and I'll see if they are in my catalog for identification.
If you can solder, I have a simple diagram for a charger using a L200 controller, adaptable for nicad and (gel)lead batteries.
Powersource is a plug-in powersource, usually from a discarded walkman, toy or whatever, as long as it delivers 9V+ and something like 500mAh)
Regards, Jan.

RE: 6 volt battery chargers
I want to thank you for your generous offer. Here goes, one PC is a 1563 zahnradpumpe
another is the diesel sound I think, grossdiesel
I think the mini 200 # 8299 is a speed control
#4125 Is a motor and gear system kleinstgetriebemotor
# 8317 looks like some kind of switch.
I have had these sice 1982 and after several moves the info has gone away.
Yes I can solder. I am an electronics technician and I fly electric models so the design would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks Gloria

RE: 6 volt battery chargers
Hi Gloria,
The Mini 200 (#8299):
- powersupply 4,8-6V
- Voltage 4-14V
- max 12A (380 type motors)
#4125:
- 1000:1 down geared for operating the monitor (fire hose)
- 4,8-6V
- 50mA
#8317:
- monoswitch for foghorn, siren, etc
- 4,8-6V
- max load 24V, 2A (relais)
#8276:
- Grossdiesel
- generates the sound of a multi-cylinder diesel.
- speed dependent
- 6-12V
- 100-200 mA
- four trimmerpots for sound, volume and max rpm
#1563
- waterpump
- 4,8-6V
- capacity 1000ml/min
I'll dig up the schematic for the lead charger and get back to you.
Regards, Jan.
Glad I kept those old catalogues...

RE: 6 volt battery chargers
You're welcome.
I can't find the schematic for the charger right away, will try again tomorrow, it's built around the Thomson TDA L200 regulator, only a few external components to make a charger for either a Nicad or Lead battery.
I took the trouble to make a PC board for it, so I could fit it into my model for charging the receiver batteries by just plugging the adaptor in, but it's also possible to assemble it on a piece of experimenting card.
Regards, Jan.

RE: 6 volt battery chargers
Right, found it!
The original article is in German (by Karl Bachun) and elaborates on the do's and dont's of the application.
Main thing for lead batteries is not to exceed 7,2 V for 6V batteries and 14,4V for 12V batteries to avoid "gassing".(trimmer pot)
Parts list:
IC 1 L-200
D 1 Diode (silicium) 1N4000
C 1, C 2 Capacitor 0,22 uF, 63V
R 1 Resistor, see tabel for correct value
R 2 Trimmer 2,5 kOhm
R 3 Resistor 680 Ohm, 0,25W
R 4 Resistor, see tabel for correct value
Should anything have become unclear in my "translation", just ask!
