RE: My Donzi Z65 pics
I could only wish!! I pulled these pics of the web, I am currently building the scale Donzi, and it has been a chore getting pics of the actual boat...so I though I would pass these along.

I don't think $500.00 will even get you an unbuilt kit right about now. Dumas discontinued them and they are like having a gold bar in hand.

RE: My Donzi Z65 pics
Been goofing around with a few ideas.
This being my first post I hope the photos come thru. This has been an off and on project for far too long and soon to be finished.
I wanted a fuel powered off-shore battlewagon. But also wanted transmitter starting and in/out of gear cabability. Trim tabs would also be nice. And don't forget about scale lights and a spinning radar antenna.
Have already gathered alum. tube for the tower. Also for the double rigged triple sreader riggers. Been toying round with a FULL set of rods and reels in the holders too.
I started with twin 40 OS FS Marine mills and Lectra-start systems coupled to some marine gears with built-in raw water cooling pumps. This gives transmitter start, idle to WOT coooling, Port or Stbd gearing as well as tranmitter controlled indivdual engine chokes and trim tabs. Stopped there with the go stuff.
Now worrking with the tower and riggers of alum. with some scale fishing gear including light and the spinning radar antenna.

OK, wait a minute, you mean to say those gearboxes are the water pumps? Can they shift forward/reverse?
I can't tell from the pictures how the exhaust exits the hull, if it is a wet exhaust we will require lots of video when you're done!

The pix are in his gallery.
Aaaahh I see, so it's a gear pump using the gears inside the housing? Forward/Reverse and a pump, that is so darn cool.
I haven't started my Donzi build yet, waiting to move. And waiting, and waiting...
I have a couple of the old marine FS-40's but I didn't know if they'd have enough power for the big 'D'

RE: My Donzi Z65 pics
Thanks so much for the nice comments. I purchased and started this build in 1987. I mounted and tested / run-in with the motors on a bread board. The LectraStart system is really neat. Growing up on boats in the nortwest I knew certain things I wanted on the boat were working trim tabs, gears, counter rotating wheels but the scale too. All of the running gear you see was laid up when I was 22 years old. The boat sat until 2001 when I SLOWLY began to build the cabin, which is pretty much where I'm at today.
During the long break I put myself thru undergraduate school as a charter boat skipper out of Seattle. Graduated. Went to Dental school in San Francisco. Graduated. Went to an Orthodontic post grad program in New York City. Graduated. Now I have settled in Dana Point, CA. With my love of the ocean I have started my practice and spend most of my free time off-shore fishing. Our real toy is a 1994 33' Blackfin sportfisher moored in Dana harbor. Her name is DOG HOUSE.
As for the Donzi. Back in '87 I was able to secure a sales portfolio for the Z65 which has given me many scale ideas. I am determined to finish this model. I plan on running it fom Dana Point to Avalon on Santa Catalina Island when completed. A 33 natical mile trip one way. She will then be displayed in my ortho. office in San Clemente.
Scale will include Bait tank, fishing gear(including poles, gaffs, lures, etc.),deck lights, nav. lights, a rortating radar antenna, and full instrumentation. I had a hard time trying to post pictures in the post but am glad to see that some of you found the images. Thanks again for the replys and I will try to keep you posted on my SLOW progress.

Well, since you are in So Cal if you ever want to run your Donzi in a really nice fresh water facility with several other scale boaters (including another Donzi) come out to Hansen Dam Lake in the San Fernando Valley sometime.
Your idea of running it in the open ocean for 33 miles is mind boggling! I sure hope you will be taking video. If not, I volunteer my services!

RE: My Donzi Z65 pics
Kmot,
When I get to the seatrial I just may come visit Hansen Dam. As far as video, I will take you up on the Avalon trip. May also have to get a few extra mates to help drive the Donzi and help with fuel stops. I will be busy running the mother ship DOG HOUSE. Picking the right day will be key. My biggest fear is a pod of porpoise trying to ride the bow wave of the Donzi or a hungry Mako shark chomping off the transome!! Both of which are a REAL possibility.
I'm still trying to come up with the fuel tank size and placement. I have a pair of Perry Aeromotive fuel pumps that run off of crank-case pulses. This should let me put the tank/tanks as far astearn as possible. Someone earlier asked about the exhaust. It is a wet exhaust comming together just after the simple expansion mufflers. When I ran these during break-in it gives a REAL LOW exhaust note. Alot like a diesel. And two mills running at the same time is a real scale like roar.
Initially when purchaseing the lectra-start systems a pair of OS FS 60's were the size I wanted. But size and proximity to the starting motors eliminated that size. Also the head fellow at lectra-start said 60's would overpower the Donzi. I really doubt that. But I was looking for scale and conrol, not super fast.
Maybe a new thread on top ten reasons Donzi builders take so darn long on completing the build? Someone probably would mention the written instruction are hard to follow.
Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to post photos in your posts. I would like to show the progress rather than just in my gallery.
Thanks alot.

RE: My Donzi Z65 pics
Hi , I have built several donzi z65 boats , all of them have been eletric . I am currently working on my final and last one I am going to build unless I can find another kit some one is selling . Anyways the 65 I am working on now I am going to go with desiel engines ( pretty much nitro engines converted to desiel ) . I am having a hard time finding trannys with F-N-R and counter rotating . Most of the companies that used to make them are not around any more . Any info on where I might find them would be greatly appreciated .
Also for every one else dying to have a donzi model should check out www.captainsmodels.com !!! This guy is building r/c 55 viking sportfish and the price tag is $14,995.00 !!!!!! The boats look great and very high quality craftmans ship but the price tag is a bit much !!
