RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Hey Dauntlessfan,
Wow that looks like a great place to sail!! I can't wait to join you!!
The boat you are making looks great and the scale is surely a nice compliment to the Dauntless. Is this going to be the Policeboat that you always wanted?
BTW My wife and son John are in Plano TX scouting out apartments.

Dauntlessfan-
Thanks for the pics! Can you give us a peek at the tubing and routing inside the hull? I can't seem to find those pickup tubes. Did you make them? What is inside diameter (size) of tubing? Thanks

Kokan the intake tubes are just brass stock tubing from the hobby shop, cut with a Dremel and deburred. They appear to be 1/8" ID (I measured by finding the biggest drill bit that would fit inside, very scientific.)

Bill,
I installed the mixer yesterday evening and adjusted the Rudder slider to find the 'sweet spot' where both motors appeared to start at the same time. After much experimentation, that spot is apparently between two "indents" on the slider so I chose the one which was closest and then readjusted the rudders to mechanical center.
For the purposes of sea trials all that is left to do is balance the boat for and aft at about 15 inches forward of the stern, check the waterline balance and recharge the batteries. Then I need to make the time to go to the pond and run her.

Rich-
I really like your catch and ball system. What caught my attention is that they will be able to transfer my DC power to cabins. Double duty and clean installation. What is width (depth) of framing on bridge?

Sounds good Bob. Glad my S.W.A.G. seems to work. I'll be away for a while on the briny but anxious to hear how sea trials go.
I've been working on this build and sea trialed her this past Sunday with great results. I just made the rod and reel this morning but not sure if I am happy with it .

Captains,
Have had a difficult time with fore/aft balance; put between 11 and 12 pounds of lead in the stern area and was still bow heavy. Looking to balance at around 14.7" forward of the stern but really don't want all that extra lead!?!
After checking with another Captain about this I've decided to move the batteries to new llocations further aft; one was easy but the second one, the one currently forward, is more of a challenge.
I'm trying to devote a little more time to working on the boat so I can get her in the water. There won't be any "frills" but I want to see how well Big Red will move with the existing power system and batteries (I guess they're part of the 'power system' ).
I will report back later with some pics later showing the before and after and maybe some in-between, if I remember.
Deep,
Looks to me as if you have the position "right on". Hopefully some of the other Captains will chime in with their respected and experienced opinions.

The way your seats look at like how mine look when I stopped working on them. I still needed to cover them with more red leather...Someday i'll get them done...
Anyway here are the seats on the full sized D. Hopefully these pics will help you finish them up.

Sorry been getting the 'resource can not be found' error when trying to post recently... lets see if I can catch up.
Rich - Yeah the boat under construction will definitely be some sort of patrol vessel for sure.
Bill - That lobster boat is very handsome. Love that canvas fold-away shade (there's probably a nautical term for it that I don't know).
Bob - Keep at it! Can't wait to see/read results of the maiden voyage.
Deep - Looks awesome and everything appears to be inline. I like your accurate-to-the-original center shelter support pole too. Great work! How will you put down the seats permanently? I only drilled holes for the legs to sit in, so my seat assembly has popped out in rough seas a few times. I was hoping to keep the seats easily removable in mine, but may need to put a couple drops of epoxy in the holes I guess.

I'll let the cat out of the bag here.
Rich had put up some pics of round noses and I liked the look. I kerfed the roof so I wouldn"t have to fight for the gentle curve I was looking for. The round nose insert has curve (dome) built in. It worked very nice. I coated the inside where kerfs were cut heavily with epoxy and it is extremely strong. Saturday was my birthday and my wife (who is a good person) enjoys my building this boat so much, she bought me a Boothbay lobster boat kit. Now I will have a rescue boat.

I really enjoy the quality of your build! As I am to the point of installing windshield, do you have any detail of yours at this stage? I see finished product but don't see how you got there.. was there soaking and pre glue bending involved? Any help is always appreciated
