For a lot of very small lights in a small space consider optical fibres and a single bulb. These can be got from "horses tail" lamps and unwanted Christmas decorations.

HO and N scale model railroad suppliers probably have something you can use. But I like the recycled Christmas lights ideas too - especially the little battery powered grain-0-wheat or micro-led sets usually designed for table decorations or mini Christmas trees.

You might try Harbor Models.com. They have all sorts of scale goodies.[8D][8D]

I used LED's (light emitting diodes) on my latest build, and liked them. I got them from an on-line store (I think it was "highintensityleds" or something similar). You have to pay attention to the voltage, watch polarity, and may have to gang some in series or use resisters to make them work. They last longer than grain bulbs, are brighter, and available in several colors. You can buy them from Radio Shack, too, but they cost much more there.

A nice trick with LEDs is to sand the dome so that it is "frosted" - that way the LED gives you a nicer diffuse light...just fyi.

And if you're really into 'self-abuse' try putting sequins on the 'pointy' end of those LEDs. Acts as a reflector, all kinds of effects possible. If it will reflect light, you can use it, sort of...
