Scratch Built Al Khular tug hardware
Hey guys, I'm building an Al Khubar from scratch. its in 1/25. I'm using these plans: http://www.taubmansonline.com/MMALKHUBAR.htm .I was wondering if anyone could guide me a little bit on what kind of running gear I need to RC-enable it once I finish. I couldn't seem to find any scratch built build threads with the same type of propulsion that Al Khubar uses. basicly right now I'm in the process of building the hull out of ply, planked through info on the forums. Just hope I can afford the parts I need to get it running when I get there! Thanks for any help!

RE: Scratch Built Al Khular tug hardware
If anyone could please help me estimate how much it would cost to RC-enable this tug, I would really appreciate it. If It's something I can't afford by the time spring weather rolls around, maybe a sail boat would be a better idea, as I'd like to have something to do outside this spring.

RE: Scratch Built Al Khular tug hardware
OK my guess
(O) = Optional
Motors: 40-70$ each (2 Required)
Esc's: 30-80$ each (up to 3 required if bow thruster is proportionally controlled)
Bow thruster: 40$ (O)
Radio system: 300$+
Batteries: 80$+
Horn:50$ (O)
Props: 20-40$ (<10$ if plastic) each
Drive shafts: <20% each
Allow 100> for random electronic parts (lights, sound, smoke) (O)
Allow 100> for building supplies and materials (Minus Tools)
Time and labor: <minimum wage
Watching your baby sink because the battery shifts and she capsizes: PRICELESS
Don't take my word for it but I think you could get her running for less than 600$+Kit cost (assuming this is your first model) If you don't go for top quality electronics.
Just remember if this is your first build, keep the electronics simple other wise you will become frustrated and fry stuff.
Have Fun
